Gapao kitchen (ครัวกะเพรา) — Restaurant in Naha

This is a Thai slice of heaven on the Island of Okinawa. Owner Wik and his partner are extremely gracious and welcoming. The menu is in Japanese, Thai and English making it easy to navigate. Wik is Thai and from Bangkok so he knows his way around the kitchen as he cooks for you.

We started with fried green curry dumplings which were a refreshing spicy appetizer and then had Gapao chicken rice and chicken green curry for our main dishes. Both were outstanding. He brought us a pan fried cabbage with tiny shrimps on it that was a perfect vegetable side. If you have an urge for Thai while visiting Okinawa this place will not disappoint you....

What an amazing surprise!!! At first we were hesitant as the place was pretty empty and small, but the food and the service absolutely compensated for it! WOW such kind hospitality and the food - we could feel it was made with love! Feeling very grateful for this beautiful surprise and experience!

We took the Phad kaprao - we’ve asked for medium Thai level spicy and it did not disappoint!!! We also took the papaya salad that was nice but not as good or spicy as the kaprao

A hidden gem in Okinawa! This is the best and most authentic Thai food I have ever had outside of Thailand. The menu/ hosts can speak Thai, Japanese, and English. (Great for foreigners!) The owner is kind and very attentive, and the atmosphere is intimate and comfortable. For drinks, we ordered a mojito and Chang beer. Both great. For dinner, we ordered the chicken gapao and shrimp gapao. Usually we are light eaters, but this meal was quickly finished!! Absolute perfection. It really tastes just like in Thailand.
