We dined at this restaurant and I came in with an open mind and eager taste buds. Unfortunately, the experience was a bit uneven. Let's break it down.
First, I ordered the Chicken Thakali set. The presentation was simple. The soups, unfortunately, lacked depth. They were watery, almost like a missed opportunity to elevate the meal. There was little to no seasoning. It felt like I was tasting the starter version of a recipe, not the final masterpiece. Timing was also an issue. My dish arrived a full 20 minutes before my wife’s meal. And that was a misstep; no one wants one person eating awkwardly while the other stares on. Not to mention starter items like the edamame and pakora came just before her meal.
Now to my wife's order, the Chicken Bharta set. Except, what arrived was not Chicken Bharta. It seemed to be the spinach chicken curry set instead. When we asked the waiter for clarification, he struggled to give a straight answer. He stumbled through a few contradictory explanations claiming this was another way to make the dish. This was weird considering we had previously tried to order a child's spinach chicken dish, and were told it wasn't possible/available. However, in a show of goodwill, he did offer us an egg curry, which we declined. Ultimately he gave a free drink, which we appreciated. I’ll give points for effort on service, despite a confusing, almost bizarre experience. We were also previously told the pakora wouldn't be available, then minutes later were told actually he could make it. So this type of thing happened throughout our time there.
Now here's the twist—this "mistake" curry turned out to be the highlight of the meal. The spinach chicken curry was outstanding, bursting with rich flavors and balanced spices. It was clearly the star of the evening, showing mastery where the other dishes fell short. The naan was also superb—soft, warm, buttery, and pillowy, just as it should be. It’s the kind of bread that makes you want to eat more than you should.
We also ordered the 3-drink special with edamame, which was a nice addition. The drinks were enjoyable and balanced the meal.
In conclusion, while there were glimpses of brilliance, the overall experience didn’t quite justify the price...
Read moreMy husband and I randomly found Gorkhali Kitchen when we searched places to eat near us and we are beyond happy about our experience. This place has a nice ambiance and is very clean. The gentleman that works here is very kind and takes pride in his service. He made sure we enjoyed the food and chatted with us for a minute. Just an overall excellent experience. I highly recommend this place. We ate the Special Chicken Thakali Set and the Chicken Biryani. Plenty of food! So much flavor and lots of options on the menu. Be sure to check...
Read moreI never thought I’d come to Okinawa Japan and say wow this nepalese food was amazing but it was. Hands down one of the best meals I ever had on the island that’s not Japanese. The service was great as both the server and cook had great people skills communicating with their customers. Once the food came out I did not hold back and I enjoyed every bite from the nan bread and the curry. If you go you will definitely enjoy...
