I rarely write reviews, but this restaurant’s shockingly poor experience compels me to speak out in hopes of sparing others.

I sat alone at the bar, and while I was eating, the chef repeatedly passed dishes to the servers over my head. To me, this behavior was incredibly rude. This happened multiple times, as if it were standard practice to reach over a dining customer’s head. Both sides of the kitchen has pathways, making this entirely avoidable.

Secondly, my chair was kicked by the server three times while I was eating. I ignored it the first two times, but on the third, I turned to look at the server, only to find she had already walked away. Perhaps it was because I wasn’t a Japanese-speaking customer and therefore not worth even a simple SUMIMASEN

Lastly, after finishing my noodles, I was served a free small bowl of shaved ice. I took two bites and put it on the table while I want to grab my beer. In the brief moment the server swiftly cleared both my noodle bowl and the ice, even giving me a confirming glance as she did so. Clearing dishes the instant a customer sets them down is shockingly rude. I had intended to take another bite of the ice but was left too upset to care

All of this might have been forgivable if the ramen were good(I’m pragmatic that way) But the ramen was utterly awful. I ordered the burnt ramen, which was topped with unidentifiable black crumbs. Instead of delivering a pleasant charred aroma, the topping tasted bitter. The broth was excessively oily to the point of being inedible. I ordered ramen, not dipping noodles, the broth should at least be drinkable, but it was overwhelmingly greasy.

I can’t imagine finding worse ramen anywhere—at least...

Ryuya Honten, a ramen restaurant, is located at side lane of the busy Kokusai-dori, Naha. Ramen restaurant is popular especially for weekday business lunch hours and after-school hours when students like to gather there for tasty but inexpensive noodle and other meals. However, in some late nights, it is also popular with drinkers and ramen eaters, and owner has 2 helpers to serve the tables and help in kitchen.

Its famous soup ramen seems to be pork or chicken flavor, and soup was made with garlic oil, opinion, and stewed pork bone or chicken bones, and that is the reason why its ramen soup is in black color. Some people do love its fried dumplings because they are hand-made with lots of soup/juice inside. Owner-chef generally would provide minced garlic to the customers in person. For people who like to have extra vegetable on ramen, they have options to add extra bean sprouts or/and cut green onions. Restaurant does sell beer, Japanese wine and few other traditional drinks at reasonable price.

The restaurant is very clean, and customers can see its cleanness from its kitchen stainless steel sheet, which is cleaned, washed as shining like a mirror.

It seems that restaurant owner enjoys his cooking and business contacts with customers a lot, and he is friendly to dialogue with the customers when time is allowed. The restaurant is also unique because it does broadcast with loud, but acceptable, western pop music, especially 1980s to 1990s or so-called oldies.

Going to Japan without having ramen is like going to Malaysia without having our Nasi Lemak.

I am super glad we decided decided walk in to this store for dinner. The staff were super friendly and one was able to speak a bit of English.

We didn't have to wait when we arrived at 7pm and was immediately brought to a table. The staff gave their recommendations and we ordered.

The food came prompt and one the first slurp, heaven! I ordered their Tonkotsu Ramen and the broth was light and fresh. The taste of the noodles were on point and they were open for me to choose my noodle texture to hard. The gyoza was also amazing and the dinner was then washed down with Okinawan beer. The ramen was so good I had to order extra noodles!

When we were done eating and exited, there was a line going around the block. Thank our lucky stars we came before the hoarde. But I will say, it is worth the wait

Overall, I want to have another...
