This outlet is located on 4th floor inside food court of the Naha Airport. There is a large selection of petite sandwiches using Japanese fried proteins such as beef katsu and egg salads. 老舗うどんチェーンとして有名な「グルメ杵屋」が運営するサンドイッチ店。

かつては全国の空港にお店が複数存在していたらしいが、現状では那覇空港内の当店が全国唯一となっており、とても貴重な店舗である。

普段からコンビニのサンドイッチを食べ慣れた向きには、当店のサンドイッチのお値段はかなり割高に感じるかもしれない。実際、私もそのように感じた。

確かに、サンドイッチの具材はコンビニのそれとは全く異なり、全てが高級感や贅沢感に満ち溢れている。 しかし逆に言えば、飛行機での旅行が庶民にはまだ贅沢だった頃(1980年代)、当店のサンドイッチを食べることで非日常なグルメを皆が満喫していたのかもしれない。

日本経済が右肩上がりだった往時の名残りを感じながら食べたサンドイッチは、とても複雑な味がした。

全くの余談だが、隣席の若い家族連れが大変に微笑ましく、自分のサンドイッチそっちのけで観察してしまった。若いお母さんが子どもを事あるごとに上手く褒める様子が非常に素晴らしく(もちろん、要所では厳しく叱りもしていた)...
