My visit to Shirasa Shokudō was a highlight of the day. Perched with an expansive ocean view, the restaurant felt like a peaceful retreat as I enjoyed some of the freshest Okinawan fare I’ve had. The sea grapes (“umi budo”) were a refreshing starter—they popped with a slightly salty, briny burst that paired perfectly with the breeze off the water.
I opted for several local dishes: tender fried fish, comforting bowl of Rafute (Okinawan braised pork belly), and some crisp vegetable sides. The flavors were authentic and unpretentious—exactly the kind of food that tells the story of the island’s culinary heritage.
Sitting by the window, everything from the view to the gentle hum of conversation made the experience feel extra special. The staff were warm, and though the menu was all in Japanese, they guided me through each dish with enthusiasm and simple English.
Whether you’re craving genuine-rustic Okinawan flavors or just want to eat with a stunning seascape backdrop, Shirasa Shokudō delivers a satisfying,...
Read moreYou know you’re onto a good thing when the menu is limited: they know what they do good and that’s what they do. Here, I had some of the best uni I’ve ever had. It was a hot day but man did it go down like a charm. Good portion size but uni don was gone pretty quick because it was that good. For its price and it was worth it as the quality was high and there was no doubts about its freshness. Some complain about service but they can’t see it for the old school charm that makes you feel like you’re having a meal in someone’s home: the grandmas running the shop are there to take your order, get you fed, and get you on your way. Maybe it’s the Instagrammers taking up the space that should be...
Read moreAmazing food with an amazing view. A scenic seaside drive when you cross the bridge to Kouri Island and you get to take in the view once you sit down. There are only a few seats outside and they overlook the sea. We got the sea urchin sets, one with rice and soup and one with just sea urchin and sea grapes. The variety served is a local variety of sea urchin and is a bit on the bitter side if you compare it to other sea urchins such as the ones from Hokkaido. Prices were fair given the food quality and the amazing view. The staff were very very friendly, but parking is very limited with only 2-3, parking spots out front. Would...
