NAOSHIMA GATE — Restaurant in Naoshima

One of those typical Japanese experiences, you see a light, fancy a drink, have no idea what you are wandering into, and end up having one off the more memorable experiences of your trip.

It's a bar, they serve spirits and beer, with a bag of cheese snacks thrown in for good measure. The owner is a super friendly guy, speaks a bit of English, and has great taste in music. We spent an enjoyable couple of hours drinking too much sake, listening to some great tunes, and communicating with google translate with the one other (80 year old) customer.

Chicken Over Rice is their specialty. It's grilled chicken over rice and a salad. After a long day of appreciating contemporary art, sitting down at naoshimagate is absolute heaven.
