西ノ京珈琲 — Restaurant in Nara

Came here for lunch before visiting two temples in the area. Nice and piecefull place, the owner of the place is a true gentleman in every sense of the word. Great customer service and knows English, so it was very helpful.

I had the Curry Doria (Rice Gratin). The fourth item on the menu. And an iced drip coffee. The Doria was delicious. Made to give you a duel flavor one before you reach the egg in the center, if you eat it from the side, then almost a secondary flavor once you reach the egg portion, making it enjoyable and surprising delicious experience

I'm not sure where the awkward bad reviews come from ... there is a store right across the street and wonder if people are posting on the wrong establishment or if there was a change of owner at some point.

Later on my way out of the area, I had the egg sandwich to go, which was also delicious and extremely fresh. And bout some coffee beans and pottery.

It was mostly a moment of misfortune that led us here, but it was lovely while we were there! It’s right next to the train/bus station and a temple, and the actual building and interior are beautiful. It was a little awkward due to some miscommunication that stemmed from my lacking Japanese, and it’s not suited to larger groups, but the actual food was delicious with very quick service. A very relaxing and cute cafe right outside the entrance to Yakushiji temple, a UNESCO heritage site with an 1,000-year-old pagoda.

Fairly English-friendly and the staff are very kind. They use local products and they serve great coffee. The owner is also friends with the local monks, and he is planning some English tours and special deals.
