Good food, and great location just near Nara Park and Tōdai-ji temple. But the service was unfortunately 2/10. Firstly, when we received our order, the older worker/cook/server with glasses got upset at us for not accepting an order that wasn't ours. We we're also confused due to langauge barrier, but tried our best to communicate. But he kept repeating the same word over and over, then eventually we accepted the orders he was holding since he was getting impatient.
Then upon check-out, we brought the 2 receipts they gave us, and paid the exact amount. But the same older server with glasses, pointed to the coins and kept commenting on the side in frustration in Japanese. He also kept hitting his head in frustration because we couldn't speak Japanese and gave him spare change. It's like he didn't want to accept our money, when we tried to give him all bills. He looked upset and got angry.
Unfortunately, the servers are not so nice...

Because there were a lot of customers, we were seated separately. It wasn’t a problem for us, but it might be for those who prefer to sit all together.
Set meal prices vary depending on the type of meat. We ordered both the cheapest and the most expensive sets. The meat was cooked just right and went really well with the onsen tamago. The cabbage dressing was delicious, and the dips were great too.
The only downside was that the meat portions were a bit small compared to most katsu places we’ve tried.
Overall, great service and friendly, approachable staff. Would still recommend for the food quality and warm atmosphere!

I went with sirloin and it was absolutely delicious. They have upgrades to other cuts of meat, but I didn't feel that was really necessary.
It blew anything I have eaten in the U.S.A. out of the water. The service was good and it's a great place for lunch with friends.
Recommend Gyukatsu anywhere, but nice to have it at Nara Park for sure after a busy...
