When you want to eat good Japanese-style food, I recommend visiting Kitchen Horiguchi! It takes 5 minutes from Kenchoudori station of Okayama Electric Tramway to this restaurant on foot. This is a set-meal restaurant and serves Japanese-style food that the Japanese usually eat in their daily life. The price of a lunch menu is around 1,000 yen. My favorite is deep-fried chicken. There are 5 big deep-fried chicken pieces which have a strong flavor of ginger. It is so delicious and gives me energy. We visited the restaurant around 2 pm, just before closing. While waiting, we were graciously offered tea outside, along with blankets to keep warm in the cooler weather—a thoughtful touch. The staff efficiently took our order during this time, ensuring that once seated, our meal was promptly served. The chef was exceptionally kind and conversant in English, enhancing our experience. We opted for the full set menu, which was both satisfying and delicious; for those with smaller appetites, a 2/3 set is also available. This is such a cute and welcoming restaurant! I recommend getting there before 11 if you plan for an early lunch as there was a line. The interior is super comfortable, the staff were all so kind and welcoming (even though I have no Japanese language skills) and all of the local customers were also so kind. I almost ordered a dish that would have been WAYY to big for me, and a customer guided to me get the smaller version - which was still more than enough for me (and I couldn’t finish it although was super delicious !!!!).
