Really good wood fired pizza with 3 clearly labeled (and delicious) vegan options, plus vegan and vegetarian appetizers and sides, a very close to Onomichi Station.
Nice relaxed atmosphere for dinner and a friendly welcome. The pizza is very well made, but we were glad we tried some appetizers first. Ordered green olives, caprese with locally grown organic tomatoes, local grilled vegetable plate and some wonderful focaccia with 3 sauces (black olive, tomato and tuna something - they subbed the tuna sauce for just plain olive oil for my group).
Then It was onto the pizzas. The marinara was simply delicious, but the two other vegan options were awesome. The Verudura was piled with delicious veg on a marinara base and the Fabiano was a wonderful take on a Bianco pizza with a chick pea paste in place of cheese.
We took a chance on this chocolate dessert pizza and are so glad we did. The chocolate us supplied by local craft choco makers USHIO so we are pretty sure it was vegan and the addition of local orange peel just set the whole thing off 😍
All in all a wonderful surprise and a family dinner to remember.

Read moreThe food and atmosphere at this restaurant was immaculate, but the prices were a little high. The portions were also not very big. We ordered smoked salmon salad, course set B, and the seasonal pizza.
The smoked salmon salad was their tranquillo salad topped with smoked salmon. The veggies were fresh and the salmon was very smoky. The course set included a sampler of salad, bruschetta, sausage, fries, and a pizza (chef’s recommendation, we didn’t choose). The seasonal pizza was a spring inspired pizza with yellow tomato sauce, special numbing pepper, grape blossoms, ham, pecorino romano, and mozzarella.
All the food was delicious, but we spent around ¥6000 and was still feeling hungry. Would definitely come again to try different pizzas and enjoy...
Read moreWhile traveling in Japan, we nearly always ate Japanese food. The one night we broke this was to try Pizzeria Tranquillo, because it looked so nice! We were not disappointed - this pizza is lovely and authentic, and the intimate restaurant has a nice buzz. We were able to sit at a table facing the pizza chef, watching him stretch and top the pies. We'd read in a review that the chef trained in Italy, and that's evident in his use of Italian techniques and ingredients. We liked the fusion of adding excellent Japanese ingredients as well - my mushroom pizza was a good example of this. Overall, if you find yourself in Onomichi, I highly recommend a pizza from...
