Unatoto Kujo — Restaurant in Osaka

I visited Osaka from Taiwan, and during my 7-day stay I came to this restaurant three times. The food was excellent and the prices were great value.

The little downside was the service experience. One staff member was very kind and welcoming, but another was noticeably unfriendly when I politely asked if it was possible to order soup on its own. She frowned and looked impatient with no intent to understand my words, and just walked away with a dismissive expression.

I was surprised by how openly the negative attitude came across, despite me trying to be as polite as possible.

I noticed some reviews mentioning that not all staff here might be Japanese, and I hope that’s the case. Because if this kind of bluntly dismissive attitude is becoming common among younger generation, it would really change my way I see Japan. I would NOT recommend this place to tourists, the restaurant was empty during dinner time and we were the only group of people who went in. However the waiter was extremely rude when serving the tea and even bang on the table to us. They did not even know where we were from, and was behaving very rude which made us uncomfortable. Nobody would want such a disappointing dining experience like that trust me. This is the worst experience we had in Osaka. I went there with my friend last week. I didn’t expect much but I really enjoyed the food. The portion wasn’t huge but it was enough that I wasn’t hungry after I finished and I really liked my meal. The price was more than correct considering it was eel. I don’t think you can find better for such a price.

The restaurant is small and a little old fashioned. If you are very specific with cleanliness/ tidiness, it might not be the best place to go to, but it gives a cozy feeling of an old neighborhood restaurant. I enjoyed it.
