We had an absolute blast at Aiyo Sapporoeki Kita3Jo — it’s easily one of the most authentic izakaya experiences we’ve had in Japan. We sat upstairs at a traditional floor-seated table, ordered some cold beers, and dove right into the food. The whole evening felt vibrant, cultural, and wonderfully Japanese.
The food was fantastic. Highlights for us included the seafood bukkake (an incredibly fun dish, especially with the staff’s energy), silky tuna sashimi, juicy gyoza, crispy chicken wings, and flavorful pork skewers (both the scallion and asparagus versions were excellent). Even dessert was memorable — beautifully presented and just as delicious as everything else.
What really elevated the experience was the service. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly, prompt, and genuinely fun. As foreigners, we never once felt out of place or burdensome — instead, we felt warmly welcomed. Our waitress, Konoha, even taught us how to shout “AIYO!” when serving the bukkake dish, which made the whole moment even more special and lively.
Overall, this place captures everything that makes izakaya culture so special: great food, flowing drinks, laughter, and a sense of community. We left full, happy, and already talking about...
Read moreHonestly the worst restaurant I have ever been to in Japan. They served us bad pork. I don’t know how they got a 4.3 rating.
We got a bunch of things including seafood, skewers and nabe. The seafood came out first. We got an oyster, ikura, salmon and botun shrimp. It’s definitely not as fresh as places in a seafood market but not the worst. For grilled stuff, the skewers were decent. However, we got the kani miso and it came out tasting burnt. Last we got the nabe. It took 5-10 mins to cook and was spilling everywhere when the water boiled. The worst thing was that the pork was smelly like it was about to go bad. We stopped eating and left right after that.
As for the service, we got asked to switch tables twice. First was because 2 of us got seated at a big table then a bigger group came in, so they moved us to a small table. Second time was then they are ready to serve the nabe and they needed us at a big table.
The temperature inside the restaurant was very hot. There was no English menu. I typically wouldn’t care about this but this just adds to the...
Read moreFood is five star, service befor bill check is five star. But we happened something unacceptable which the front desk for bill check is quite rude. We order udon and it didn’t come. And the bill check person didn’t tell us when it will come. After few minutes we paid and we wait in front of the front deak. He just keep ask “canclled?” in a bad manner way. He loudly open and close the drawer with noise and refound 220 yuan in the end. This dishes “udon” is a very little thing among the bill. I think there’s many better way to say this udon is comeing soon or something else other than using bad attitude to treat people. It might be the language misunderstanding but we feel not good. We all happy and satisfied with food and servive before we bill checked. Staff is smiling, helpful, energetic except one and ruin our last meal in this trip. It could be wonderful if bill check accident...
