In the battle for the best burger/sandwich spot in Sapporo, JS Burger Cafe is a top contender.

At first glance, I was a little concerned that JS was going to be high on flash (a spot for young women to take Instagram photos) and weak on substance. I was happy to be wrong. The restaurant sports an impressive lineup of burgers and sandwiches. They also carry a fried chicken and waffles dish which was only slightly beaten out by our order of a Pastrami Sandwich and Shrimp Po Boy.

My pastrami was delicious, if ever so slightly light on meat (the burgers I saw out of the corner of my eye included generous burger patties!). We forgave the fact that the Shrimp Po Boy wasn’t served on a baguette because it was also very tasty, including lots of spicy shrimp.

I will not order the fried chicken pieces again. The breading was tasty, but the chicken itself lacked flavor. Our Parmesan Truffle French Fries were totally unnecessary (the sandwiches come with normal fries), but we couldn’t resist and ended up being glutinous, but satisfied.

Lunch specials include an all you can eat salad bar. Service was good. Prices are somewhat high, but worth it.

Trust me when I say this is one of the best burgers I’ve had in Sapporo, I had a meal of the Jalapeño burger, a burger topped with bacon cheddar, extra crispy jalapeño poppers and creamy thousand Island sauce and an extra salty mustard with onion and cabbage slaw to balance it all. I removed bacon due to me not eating pork, but listen. It was amazing, well balanced. Didn’t ask me for a specific way to cook it which reduces some of the rating. Burger itself came in between medium well to well done.

Food arrived exactly 6 minutes and 46 seconds after ordering, Beef quality reminded me of an above average burger restaurant (NOT FAST FOOD JOINT) in America. Japan beef rating: 6.7 American beef rating: 7.8

Came with a side of fries topped with red seasoning and smoked kelp seasoning which gave it a tangy umami flavor. Super crispy, super tasty even McDonalds can take notes.

Came also with a side of carrot salad, reminded me of the salad my Moroccan aunt makes every Friday. And a sheep’s salad(a bunch of leaves with barley amount of seasonings)

Plate was left on a 7.1 scale of cleanness (10 being left squeaky clean), due to me not finishing my sheep salad.

I’m impressed. Sapporo city is in a state of emergency so no going out for eats. This burger shop delivered through Uber and I was beyond satisfied with it. The meat patty was huge! The buns? Lightly toasted and fresh. I went for the mushroom burger cheese burger with added bacon. Wow. It had a few different types of mushrooms sautéed and the bacon was thick and cheese melts. The only reason I wouldn’t give them the full 5 is because I asked for both the bacon and fries to be extra, extra crispy. (It’s always best for delivery). The bacon was fairly well cooked but the fries soft and a bit undercooked. Eco friendly packaging!!! So nice to see! The burger came as a set and was delivered in record time.
