After 14 days of coffee tasting in Hokkaido, I found their coffee is the best and I purposely made a trip back before I fly off today!

If you're tired of minimalist cafes and want an authentic, nostalgic Japanese coffee experience, you must seek out Marumi Coffee in Sapporo. Tucked away in the basement on Kita 2 Jonishi, this place is a cherished local secret.

The moment you walk down the stairs, you're transported. It’s a classic kissaten (喫茶店) with a dark, woody interior, soft jazz, and the magnificent aroma of coffee that has been brewing for decades.

I ordered their signature blend. (Brazil) in Piccolo, It was served meticulously in a beautiful ceramic cup and was incredibly smooth with a deep, clean flavor—clearly brewed by masters who understand their craft. This is coffee for the sake of coffee, and it's a meditative experience.

Don't come for the wifi or avocado toast. Come for a moment of quiet perfection. A true highlight of our trip to Hokkaido.

Was lucky to have discovered this coffee stand and it was close to my hotel. I went here every morning I could to get a cold brew. There are multiple choices, and they change it from time to time if not daily. . I am not Japanese but they did their best to tell me the options and let me smell the aromas of each bean before I made my choice. You don't get that kind of service in NYC. The cold brews were deep in flavor and strength, I think one of the african blends was my favorite. I didn't even want to add any sugar or cream so that I could taste more of the coffee. We decided to try this Marumi shop because it was open early. There is a good variety of roasted coffees from different countries and show casing different processes. They also had an anaerobic fermented coffee. It was meant to be tasted as a hot pour over, but the staff was gracious enough to provide a cup of ice. The taste hot was winey and fruity typical of the process. I enjoyed it I bought a bag of roasted beans. I also tried the mixed soft serve. Definitely a good coffee flavor, but a hard to find Hokkaido...
