I was searching for a sushi joint near my hotel (northern exit end of JR Sapporo station) as I couldn't be bothered to go all the way down to Susukino (I was too tired to take the hike). I did a quick search on the web and found this place. It was about 10 minutes walk from my hotel. It looked tiny from the street; maybe it had about half a dozen seats on the counter and a couple of tables squeezed in. I had no reservation and a bit hesitant to go in but as I saw only two customers in the joint, I jumped in. The chef looked surprised when I entered the place and I wondered if I did the right thing. Turned out he was just surprised to see any more customers. Anyway. I asked for a course of omakase and also a couple of okonomi sushi's plus couple of drinks (a glass of sake and also a glass of umeshu). The chef used to operate a restaurant in Susukino, and he was telling me he just moved to somewhere more quiet; and he got his wish. He made wonderful sushi, and I was very impressed. Even more impressed when I got the bill. I can easily see the bill double to triple this in Tokyo. I entered the restaurant a very hungry man and left a very satisfied man. I will come back here when I visit Sapporo the next time.
Update: I visited this joint again almost exactly a year after my initial visit. I didn't make a reservation just like the last time, and I just walked in. Surprisingly the chef remembered me. I just had another course of omakase sushi, and it was just as good as the last time I visited. I promised to come back here the next time I visit Sapporo again.
Update of update: I visited this place again, a year later. This time, I made a reservation. The chef remembered me, and I just had another course of omakase sushi, and it's just as good as before. You really do get bang for your buck here, and I haven't been...
ย ย ย Read moreWe used Google to find this restaurant when a nearby popular conveyer belt sushi place was too long a line and really looked unpleasantly packed. We are so glad we changed courses! This place was incredible. Very small with one owner/sushi chef who really took pleasure in his craft. We ordered the Omakase (they have aQR code English menu). Every piece of sushi was more high end then the next, and delicious- uni, abalone, toro etc. And it was $39!! The waitress speaks a little English, but we tried to use Google translate and speak some Japanese and it really seemed...
ย ย ย Read moreIt was the freezing cold night of February 1st, and my wife and 9-month-old baby had been traveling for nearly the entire day. We felt immense relief as we were finally welcomed inside as the last customers of the night. We ordered a plate of sushi, chef's choice, and received a variety of delicious items, some of which I couldn't identify. However, everything was amazing, even the Uni which I typically dislike. We are grateful for your excellent food and...
