Tokachi Butadon Ippin (Stellar Place -Sapporo Station) — Restaurant in Sapporo

If you are looking for a tasty grilled pork dish for a good price, then this is your place. It is on the 6th floor of the Sapporo Stellar Place, relatively easy to find. We came for an early dinner around 5:30pm on Thursday and it only took 5 mins to be seated. However the line quickly got bigger after we were seated but seemed to be moving fast. When you are ordering, you can order your meat to be cut smaller, bite size or not cut at all and you can also choose the amount of sauce. We chose extra sauce and regular bite sized cuts for our two orders. We ordered the Butadon with Two Parts topped with pork loin and belly, normal Butadon, and the pork miso soup with 1/2 boiled egg. Everything was packed with flavor and had relatively large portions. Both the pork loin and pork belly were very tender and had what seemed similar to teriyaki sauce flavor. The pork miso was very hearty as there were a good amount of vegetables, 1/2 a boiled egg and a bunch of pork (great deal for the miso, as it was only 280 yen). The service was also quick and efficient and they kept our water glasses full throughout the meal. They had an English menu and we received our food within 15 minutes of ordering. The restaurant is located on the lowest floor of Stellar Place shopping mall. The queue to enter was very long, and we had to wait for almost an hour.

The restaurant only serves butadon, which is a bowl of warm rice topped with grilled pork slices, along with various side dishes such as miso soup and others. The portion of meat was exactly as shown in the menu—very generous, even overflowing from the rice bowl. The pork was tender and flavorful, grilled with a special sauce that was slightly sweet and savory, making it a perfect match with the warm white rice.

As for the side dishes, the taste was quite standard. The miso soup, which contained vegetables and meat, was too oily, very different from the usual miso soup typically served with Japanese meals. The chilled tofu we ordered also...

One of the most memorable meals I've had in Japan. Went here twice during our five-day stay in Sapporo. First night, we tried the Butadon with Two Parts (Loin & Belly) together with the Salad and Ume Tofu. Everything about the Butadon was perfect. The pork tastes so clean that I didn't feel satiated at all. Each grain of rice was perfectly plump, and it paired so well with the BBQ pork.

Second time we came here, we had the 1.5x meat option, and we loved it! This Butadon doesn't have the pork belly, so I highly recommend it to people who like lean meat.
