I had a family trip to Sendai on 8/6, and Zenjiro really destroyed my imagination and experience about the famous beef tongue in Sendai. Because the price of beef tongue is high, maybe I put a too high standard to Zenjiro. I've searched that Zenjiro had a very good reputation online, and that's why we chose it for our big meal of the trip. The service there is okay. We arrived at early afternoon, so not too much waitng for a 5-people seat. Waiters service is polite and good. And you don't need to speak good Japanese to order. The food is what goes wrong. I don't like to leave bad comments to shops, and usually is wishing they could do better next time. The beef tongue itself was awesome. BUT, several pieces of our meat was BURNT. You may obviously and only emphasise on the taste of bitterness when you expect some delicate, smooth sweetness and tenderness hug of beef tongue. The picture is when the dish is served, which has a better side upside. One can easily tell the color difference. The back side is even darker, but my parents didn't let me to report to the waiter.(Of course another reason would be the difficulty of communication) And probably the worst is that the burnt even also occur in the best quality dish "極厚真中たん".
I would like to believe this experience is just my case. But since there are bunches of choices of beef tongue in Sendai, my suggestion is choose another shop, or at least another branch of Zenjiro.
Btw, get to say their beef tail soup is awesome. Light but sweet. The beef tail is so tender. And their rice and Japanese sake...
Read moreThis whole row of restaurants is all connected. Obviously, they are famous for their beef tongue. We were intrigued by their drink food menu. Since they didn't have seats for the drink menu area, we walked to their beef tongue section where you had to take your shoes off and sit on a tatami. We ordered their main dish beef tongue, along with a variety of food from the drink menu. Everything was beautiful and really well done. From their most prized beef tongue down to the yakisoba. I couldn't find one single thing wrong with this restaurant. The total was less 10,000 yen. For the overall service, experience, and quality of food, I just highly recommend you try this restaurant. Lastly, they don't believe in takeout. So you got to finish what you ordered. I almost forgot, beef tongue soup came with the beef tongue set. The set I ordered came with the beef...
Read moreWe visited on Monday (お盆休み) around 5:45 PM and waited for about 40 minutes. We got a counter table.
We ordered: 牛タン・牛ハラミ定食 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 善次郎定食 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ソーセージ単品 ⭐️⭐️
I like gyutan and gyu harami so much! They were thick, smooth, tender, and the salt was perfect. I have no doubt they use good-quality beef.
As for the sausage, it was good but had no special taste.
The soup was salty.. it would have been more delicious if they had used beef broth. For me, it tasted like regular consommé soup with a lot of negi. They did put two pieces of beef inside, which were good and tender.
The rice portion was large enough for me.
Ah! There was also a small amount of green pickles on the gyutan plate. They were so good! They had a spicy flavor... I’m not sure what they were made of.
Afterall, IT WAS WORTH THE MONEY! Please try it if you...
