We ordered sashimi with croquets and had miso soup. For the miso soup we encountered a nice little surprise we weren’t sure if it was a shell, creature or plant. The sashimi was rather chewy and had little taste. The croquets that my friend ordered tasted like they came straight from the freezer. While for the golden eye fish that was scrumptious and is seen as a delicacy for Shimoda which we enjoyed. Sadly we won’t be returning due to my friend succumbing to violent vomiting a few minutes after we left the restaurant. We had to afterwards go to Lawson’s for my friend to feed his appetite.

What a lovely meal! I stopped in here tonight around the time the restaurant opened (and I’m glad I did—it quickly got crowded) and ordered the seat meal featuring a sashimi starter and local specialty Kinmeni Teishoku (red snapper). The sashimi was fresh and delicious, and the sweat sauce of the tender red snapper was to die for. The mother and son who own the restaurant didn’t speak much English, though they had an English menu (and, oddly, one of the chefs spoke quite good English as well). This place will definitely be high on my list the next time I’m in Shimoda!

The best food in Shimoda! I tried the kinmedai (golden eye snapper) all up and down Izu and this place had the best I found in the peninsula. The meal sets here actually have more food and bigger portions despite being a lower price than all the nearby seafood places, amazing. The shop only has a few tables and counter seating for four, so it may fill up for the night quick. Either arrive early or make a reservation.

The restaurant staff was friendly and provided good service. English menus are available, but the Japanese menu has more options than the English menu. The portions were good and everyone on our party was very full and over ate. :-)

I recommend the sashimi which was very fresh and delicious varieties of local fish. The wakami (seaweed) salada is a wonderful taste of the ocean. After tasting the red snapper, which was so fresh and tasty, I had to order my own and risk the gluten in the soy sauce. Wow, it's a wonderful dish that I want to eat again. The tempura was also a big hit with my family. They ate it all with...

This small family restaurant has probably been the best meal we have had in Japan in 2 years, and this is a lot to say, because almost everywhere the food is good hee in Japan. We ordered the four main dishes they have for lunch and they all were absolutely amazing. However one of them was outstanding from the others which was the fish is sweet soy sauce. It was so good that our son who normally dont like fish, said it was so good that he asked us to take him back to the restaurant next day again so he could order the fish for himself. We went back and would go again...
