Guesthouse Sancyouan — Hotel in Shimoda

wonderful little guesthouse in a quieter part of Shimoda. we stayed in the villa, which is separate from the shared guesthouse area. it's about a 12-min walk from Izukyu-Shimoda station. there are plenty of taxis available at the station to take you here, but no one will know this place by name. you'll have to provide the driver with the address.

the interior has been renovated, but it's still quite reminiscent of "older" Japanese homes, with tatami mats, a completely open floor plan (like a large studio apartment), and large windows. all told, the space can sleep four. we stayed in it as two.

we found the place to be very clean and well-maintained, with no real signs of disrepair or disuse.

it can get cold at night, but we didn't mind too much. also, the room area for the villa is on the second floor, with the only access being a narrow staircase. i wouldn't recommend it for people that might have trouble going up and down stairs.

the kitchen is quite large (it's part of the living area), and cooking utensils are available for use. we didn't use them, but this is definitely a good spot for people looking to cook at least some of their own meals. there's also several great restaurants within walking distance.

Great guesthouse that have everything you need. Big room on 2 floor is the best, (a smaller and cheaper room on ground floor is also available) Bring earplugs since the windows make quite some noise if it is windy at night. The place is about 5 min walking distance from the train station, right at the harbourfront, and restaurants and bars are all within reach by 1-3 minutes walk

Note: Stay away from the onsen bath around the corner, the owner seem to like to walk in on ladies if they are alone...

I stayed here for 10 nights it is a beautiful and clean guesthouse with everything you need. The owner is very friendly and offered his help for any needs. Location is quiet and relaxing. Very well stocked kitchen, there are games, lovely shower and I could even do my laundry! Close by there is a supermarket for cooking your own food, lovely restaurants and many things to do! I definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to enjoy a peaceful time in this little...
