Cannery Row Suwakohan — Restaurant in Shimosuwa

Canary Row (キャナリィ・ロウ) - Fantastic Italian between Shimosuwa and Suwa for those willing to spend a bit more, and you really do get what you pay for. Freshly-made and genuinely good pizza and pasta. They have sets that include the buffet antepasto bar, pizza or pasta, and dessert, which I would recommend paying the little extra for, since I usually fill up on the appetizers, eat a bit of the pizza (and take the rest home), then finish the meal with whatever desserts I can still eat. For lunch, it's around 1500, and for dinner, closer to 1900, but dinner includes a varied dessert tabehoudai. (blueberry cheesecake, key lime pie, rich caramel, and 8 flavors of gelato, anyone? The pasta was HORRIBLE. It had aubergine in it and tasted extremely sweet. Nothing Italian on that. The Pizzaiolo was dressed with a dirty white apron and the guy who waited on us had his fancy hair banging around as he moved in the hall. Just a bad thing to see in a restaurant. In the end, the salad bar was so good that I felt compensated for all the stress.

Tell you waitresses to wear a cap and your Pizzaiolo to wear clean clothes and I'll think...

We arrived before 5pm, which is when the dinner menu starts, and the staff kindly accommodated us and even took our order early without problem.
