Takachiho is a lovely and cosy small town. Not many restaurants open at night for dinner and we have gone to a few without success before coming to Ken-chan. As we entered this Izakaya place, the staff firstly told us that he could not speak English, we said we were ok as we spoke a little Japanese and only wanted to take some food. Then, he said, please sit down and he came and handed over the menu which was fully in Japanese. He served us later by recommending some dishes. The food were served swiftly after order. The skewers and fried mackerel were tasty. Best is the miso tofu with vege. The purple radish on top if the tofu was special, something new to us. Upon payment, an old man that I assumed is the owner, he started to talk in Japanese about himself doing karate in the past with a very friendly tone as many photo of himself were shown on the walls. Here end up to be one of our favourite dinner places in Japan. If you ever come to Takachiho, you can consider this place, especially of you like...
Read moreWe stayed at Imakuni next to the izakaya and the hotel reception who spoke Chinese helped us made a reservation. We were showed our table immediately. So suggest making a reservation with the hotel help even when u arrive late as they opened...
