Steps to take udon, for foreigners 1) Take a tray and small plates. Look up and you will find a simple menu with price 2) Move along. Take the tempura you like onto the plate 3) Move along and you can find some oden, you will need another plate if you want some 4) Moving further you will be asked what udon you want, you can ask for small/ large in terms of portion, then say cold / hot. The udon will ne given to you in a bowl 5) Moving further along you can take some sushi 6) Then you will meet the cashier 7) After paying for the food selected, you can turn around and find a place where where you need to favour your own bowl of udon. 8) If you want to have hot udon, you meed to put it into a strainer ( there are few for you, in different sizes) then soak it into the hot water right in front of you. There is no need to soak for too long as you just want to make it hotter. 9) Put the udon back to your own bowl, then add some soup from the tap right next to you. 10) Add some green onion, crispy deep fried flour, ginger from the boxes as much as you like. Some locals will add unexpectedly loads of them 11) Find yourself a seat and then you can start tasting the udon of your own style By the way, the texture of the udon of this shop is really nice. Lots of people during lunch hours and will close quite early.

Sanuki Udon Ueharaya served one of the best bowls of udon I’ve ever had. Everything about the meal felt thoughtful and refined, while still maintaining that comforting, homey vibe that makes a great udon shop so memorable. The noodles were outstanding—tender yet satisfyingly chewy, with that signature bounce you hope for in Sanuki udon. You can tell they really take pride in their craft. The broth was flavorful without being too heavy, striking a great balance that let the noodles and toppings shine. I highly recommend getting the eggplant—it was silky, perfectly cooked, and soaked up the broth beautifully. The squid was also excellent: tender, not rubbery at all, and full of umami. There’s a clear attention to detail in how each ingredient is prepared and served. The shop itself is unassuming and relaxed, but the food speaks for itself. Whether you’re a udon enthusiast or just looking for a satisfying local meal, this place is well worth the visit. I’d happily come back for another bowl. PS great place for lunch if you are stopping by ritsuri garden

Had udon here before visiting Ritsurin Garden. Famous udon shop packed with locals and tourists. Waited for 15 mins for a table. English menu not available. They serve udon and soba, on the day of visit, I saw most of the people ordering udon so I just followed. Udon was served cold, but you can reheat at self-served hot water bath in the middle of the restaurant. A variety of side dishes available, from tempura to oden. I ordered cold udon with dipping soy sauce and oden (boiled tofu and fish cake). Udon has a very good texture. Dipping sauce is a bit different from what I had before - it has rich fish flavour on top of fresh soy sauce. If you are not a fan of seafood / fish, would recommend other udon with hot broth / udon with meat. I would recommended to pay a visit if you are hanging around the park (the restaurant is located just opposite to the park).

A long queue during lunch time, but it moves quite fast. The system is to first choose the tempura (fried food), choose the udon type (I chose kakeudon), heat up your own noodles, (not written in the store, so i asked and the staff said for 5 seconds), put the soup in the noodles and then put the toppings on the noodles. Move to a table where seats are available and eat. There is a counter for free tea/water and tissue. There are no seat reservations before going to queue for the food. Everyone seems to be in a rush to settle the order and finish the food. The mixed vegetable tempura was very crispy, full of batter and quite oily. The prawn tempura was warm and crispy. Overall, udon is very simple, soup was light and flavourful, however tempura was a bit too much (regretted my own choice for taking too many tempuras).

Came at 10:30 am, no need to queue yay!! Ordered Saru Udon (さるうどん) it’s the dipping udon, and took two tempura, one chiguwa (fish cake) and then I saw the fried eggplant, the whole eggplant!!!!!! I must eat it, please gimme! Total price ¥650, ok!! The first bite is crucial, the crunchiness of tempura really send me to cloud 9, and then a slurp of udon in the broth, it is smooth like silk, just like Bruno Mars’ Leave the Door Open! Oooohhh sooooo good! Frankly speaking, I cannot differentiate if one restaurant is better than the next, since I love all the texture when it is cold noodle, so chewy, and I want to eat it every day please! Please gimme! I want it bad! If you are still doubt, or think Ramen is better (?) well, please come to Kagawa and let udon speaks to you and make you smile and cry while eating them!

Basically it is a self service Udon noodle cafeteria, once you enter the restaurant, you will need to head to tempura station to choose wherever you want or you can just skip it and head to the udon station where there are a variety selection of cold/ hot udon and it comes with big or small size then there is the boiled toppings station that you can add more toppings on your udon……The cold udon was better than the hot ones, it is much more chewier……the seaweed fish cake tempura was extremely delicious……other tempuras were up to the standard…… great lunch break place if you are near ritsurin garden…….
