Restaurant Mominoki — Restaurant in Takayama

This restaurant is located in the hotel/public onsen in the back. You need to walk a ways towards the end of the entire building but you’ll get to it eventually!

We came here two nights in a row after enjoying the onsen for a couple of hours. We really liked the local food here and were impressed with all of the yummy options. The ordering process was really fast – we just did it on our phones. The cold tofu tasted really fresh and light and something unique. The hot udon noodle soup was so delicious and I really loved the flavor of the broth. The hoba miso was also very tasty, and same with the fried chicken and ramen with soy sauce. The only thing I didn’t love was the cold soba.

Do not park in the location shown by Google maps. Instead, park in front of Hirayu no Moro main large parking lot (shown with purple arrow). Photo shows the entrance at night when there may be fire 🔥 torches outside the main hotel entrance.

After taking off shoes when entering hotel, go to Receotion desk which has this map of how to walk to restaurant.

Since we have a vegetarian in the family, we ordered the miso sansei (wild vegetables flavored with a miso sauce) which you grill on a hot plate. We also ordered sansei soba (choose hot or cold).

We also ordered chicken teppanyaki and mushroom to cook on a gas hot plate that was plugged in by the waitress. Use tongs to cook the food on the gas hot plate. Everyone enjoyed making the...

Unfortunately with the online ordering system it was not able to get just vegan food. Allergenes on the menue were not labeled. The ordered tofu had fish flakes on it. Sauces were not labeled, so you hardly could separate them. The miso soup has fish inside, as a waiter kindly informed us. With ordering a big rice, a miso soup came along with it. We could not talk a lot because of the language barrier. But we got a vegetable oil to grill the veggies as we asked for it. Ambiente is quite nice, just the table we got had a cold floor.
