My wife and I had lunch at Kakigoya 58 on the 2nd of January.
The food was delicious and very fresh. We had scallops, tuna head meat, shrimp and steamed oysters. You cook your own meal at the table on the burners provided. The tuna head meat was really good it was like a combination of tuna and beef brisket. The oysters were fresh and juicy. Mmm it was good.
The prices were very reasonable indeed.
The man running the restaurant was very nice as well.
It's a very casual restaurant. But that's what make it so cool. You enter, take a seat and wait for the man to take your order. This may take a while but be patient. You can even bring your own drinks from outside - BYO as we say in Australia. There is a supermarket around the corner. Enjoy a beer whilst you wait.
I should point out that it might be difficult to order here for Westerners. We're Australian and were lucky that the family dinning next to us spoke English and basically ordered for us - I said "can we have what you guys ordered". If in doubt just ask for "Kaki". Practice your Japanese before coming.
There are a few basic rules to restaurant such as collect your own cutlery and clear your table after you finish. These are reasonable requests and there is a bin for cans and a bin for oyster shells. Easy.
When I come back to Tamano I will certainly be eating here again.
And, when we there the young lads next to us gave us a six pack of Asahi as a welcome gift! It was our lucky...
Read moreI’m not kidding when I say that this the BEST Kakigoya (like “Oyster Restaurant”) that I’ve ever tried in Japan.
The space might be that fancy, but the Menu is the thing here! The oysters are delicious. You can eat them steamed or raw, both are incredible good.
We order beef also (like some sort of muscle) and was incredible too.
But the best thing I had here was the Sashimi, is the first time I’ve ever tried something like this, you definitely have to try it. That sashimi is so special that they only serve one portion of it per group (sorry but did took pictures of it).
Another plus, you can bring your own drinks and food for eat along with the oysters. I personally recommend it since oysters might be delicious but maybe you have to eat a lot of them to feel satisfied. They also have a Teishoku (dishes) menu that seems very popular and tasty too, but did try any yet.
You need to take with you the trash of the food and drink you bring, but if you pay 500¥ they will dispose it for you.
Highly recommend, I also play to visit it more often an try more...
Read moreAuthentic Local Japanese Dining Experience 🇯🇵 This cozy little restaurant doesn’t have an English menu, but the staff can communicate in English quite well. You can also use Google Translate to read the menu — it works fine. Sauces are self-service.
I recommend ordering everything at once since it’s a small place and food might take a bit of time to prepare. But trust me, it’s absolutely worth the wait!
They serve two types of oysters — local (frozen) and fresh ones sourced from another city. The fresh oysters are limited, so they might sell out early. They were incredibly delicious and very clean. The steamed oysters were so good I could hardly believe it!
My favorite dish was the curry rice — definitely a must-try! And the apple sorbet was the perfect dessert — sweet, refreshing, and full of flavor.
Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants to enjoy a true local Japanese...
