We were staying just up the street at Ryokan Yuen Shinjuku and wandered into Izakaya Roku because it looked warm and inviting and seemed to be busy with locals, always a good sign. We are so glad we did, it's a really special little place. The friendliest service, we loved everyone who worked there - we were the only foreigners and there was a definite language barrier but with lots of smiles and laughs we worked it out and had an excellent meal. The highlight was the spicy noodles with fish eggs - the umami flavor in this dish was sensational. Also great was the duck, the "mouth watering" chicken, the excellent fried chicken, anchovy potatoes and broiled sirloin yukhoe.

I ordered the chicken (slow cooked for 2 hours, and very tender), the risotto (very flavourful), and the potato salad (super tasty), and only paid about 2000 Yen. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is...
