The Story Begins In 1962
The first generation started this journey as a Wagyu merchant. A craftsman who faced cattle, discerned the quality of meat, and honed his skills. Since then, the family business expanded to meat wholesale, butcher shops, and the food industry, I was raised alongside meat as the fifth generation. Wagyu was never a “special occasion treat” for me. I have known its taste since I was a child and it was always close to me. However, in my 30s, when I visited America, that feeling was greatly shaken. The “WAGYU” I encountered there was completely different from the Wagyu I knew. Cattle from Australia and America were circulated as “Wagyu,” and many people smiled as they ate, saying, “Is this Wagyu?” Seeing that scene brought me both surprise and frustration.
What ‘Real Wagyu’ Truly Means
And to avoid misunderstandings, let me talk a little about the “real Wagyu” we select. I visit livestock farms all over Japan and purchase only Wagyu that I truly accept by the whole head. My idea of “real Wagyu” is not the industrially fattened Wagyu with excessive fat that was once popular in Japan. Rather, it is Wagyu raised healthily with meat that has truly delicious red meat— Wagyu with umami and tenderness in the meat itself, not just in the fat—this is what I consider “real.” Now, among Japanese gourmets, this type of Wagyu is attracting the most attention. Therefore, I want you to experience this highly valued “real taste” of Japan at our store. From the perspective of safety, to ensure that Muslim customers can also enjoy with peace of mind, I personally select Wagyu processed at the few halal-certified slaughterhouses in Japan, and only procure those I am confident in.
Real Wagyu, For Everyone
This style embodies the desire to deliver a Wagyu experience that anyone can enjoy comfortably, regardless of nationality, religion, age, or gender. That is why we create a restaurant without alcohol. For those who abstain from alcohol for religious reasons, and for families with small children, we want it to be a place where anyone can feel safe to enter. However, our store is not just for a specific group of people. This place was born to deliver the charm of real Wagyu to everyone in the world. It is good to savor each slice carefully, but sometimes, enjoy it lavishly and to your heart’s content. We want to make real Wagyu available to people all over the world. That is the wish of “Godaime Wagyu Tokyo.”

I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Japanese Wagyu Steak & Burger Shinjuku Beef Restaurant 5W-Tokyo, and I can confidently say — this was the best Wagyu burger I’ve ever had! From the moment I walked in, the warm, inviting atmosphere and friendly staff set the tone for an exceptional dining experience. The attention to detail was top-notch, and the fact that everything is Halal-certified made the experience even more enjoyable and inclusive. Now, let’s talk about the Wagyu burger — juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Every bite melted in my mouth. The meat was rich and buttery, with just the right amount of seasoning to let the high-quality Wagyu truly shine. The bun was soft yet sturdy, complementing the burger perfectly. Paired with crispy fries and a refreshing drink, it was a satisfying, memorable meal from start to finish. Whether you’re a Wagyu lover, looking for a great Halal option, or just exploring Tokyo’s food scene, this gem in Shinjuku is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be coming back next time I’m in Japan. Highly recommended!

Sakura, our hostess, welcomed us warmly when we arrived. We were slightly confused as there was no display of the name Godaime anywhere at the entrance. Upon entry, the ambience was very pleasant and quiet. Sakura went through the history of the restaurant and its ways of sourcing, preparing and serving the beef. That was an eye opener and it added our appreciation on what came on the plates. Wagyu steak, cooked well-done and a wagyu burger combo was the order. That came with a glass of soft drink, french fries, a bowl of miso soup and an additional bowl of rice as a side. Though the steak was made well-done, it remained tender, juicy and full of taste. The burger was succulent with the mustard just slight, not overpowering. Overall it was more than a meal. It was an experience. The team worked so hard on what they do. Each one of them gave their utmost. Sakura is sweet and honest. She is the star of the place. The place if definitely worth the search whenever you need a meal in Shinjuku.

I stumbled across this wagyu burger spot while exploring the area, and I am so glad I did. Hands down, one of the best burgers I’ve had in my life — and that’s not an exaggeration. The wagyu patty was insanely juicy, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and packed with rich, buttery flavor. You could literally taste the quality in every bite. The bun was perfectly toasted, fluffy inside with a slight crunch on the outside, and held everything together without getting soggy. They kept the toppings simple — caramelized onions, a touch of wasabi mayo, and crisp lettuce — which let the wagyu shine. Even the fries were next level: golden, crisp, and seasoned just right. The vibe of the place was cozy but modern, and the staff were super friendly and welcoming. You could tell they genuinely cared about what they were serving. Prices were fair considering the quality of the beef, and honestly, I’d go back in a heartbeat.

Ignore all the exaggerated reviews about how good it is here. If you're someone who's had good burgers in their life, this burger is average and nothing more. Yes, it's tasty, but it's really, really not worth it. I've never encountered such messy, slow, and terrible service. We ordered two burgers, mine arrived after 50 minutes, and when we asked what about the second burger we ordered, they only started making it then. My burger and fries arrived cold, and we asked for the second burger without pickles, and let me tell you, we weren't surprised when it arrived with pickles anyway. By the way, the table that ordered 20 minutes before us still hadn't received all of their dishes and we had already left the restaurant. Just plain awful. Messy. And really, really, really not worth the money, which is already expensive for no good reason, and of course we weren't surprised when we didn't get compensation for the worst service we've ever gotten in Japan. Oh, and the portion is small, you get less than 10 pieces of potato when you order fries. In short, we went to eat pizza after the restaurant. And something we didn't know before, is that it's a Muslim restaurant and there were a lot of Muslim customers, which is fine but it wasn't the atmosphere we...
