The wooden building was beautiful and well-kept. It looked like an American bungalow on the outside, but the inside was a traditional Japanese home. The living room was converted to take in guests. Three smaller rooms were converted into dining spaces.
PLAYLIST’s owner recommended I go here if I liked specialty coffee (which I do), baked goods (which I do), and curry (which I also do).
I was greeted by friendly staff and a huge counter topped with golden pastries. Tempted to get a curry, I got a scone and their blended pour over instead.
The card lists wine as one of the notes. To be frank, I was worried that it tasted fermented, but whether it was the roasting technique or the blend itself, it didn’t. What I did get was a nice sour fruity flavor with hints of chocolate.
The scone was not as buttery as I expected it to be, so the coffee wasn’t ruined. The notes became a little muted, but they didn’t turn into a disgusting acrid taste like what most buttered goods do to me.
And then it snowed.
It would be really unfair of me to recommend this place because I got to experience my first snow in Tokyo here, so that means I have to go back and try their other food. Woe is me.
What I can recommend is this. The coffee is good and is elevated by the location and café itself. It’s a great place to get some work done since it’s cozy with no distractions. If ever you need food, they serve curry among...
Read moreVery quaint, cozy , charming space. It has a natural earthy aesthetic! The entrance is quite easy to miss so slow down if you're riding a bicycle or in a car. (You have to turn off the main road) There is a small sign at the front of a gravel road. The prices are extremely cheap for such quality coffee, I had the house blend for 450 yen and banana bread which was soooo good! They also sell cookies or muffins etc. Well stocked menu with exotic coffee with a range of tastes. Also serve teas. Highly recommend! Since I'll be working from home now, this will be my go-to shop for coffee (trust me skip the starbucks at the station, this is better) Forgot to mention, there are...
Read moreBest keema curry we’ve ever had in Japan! Two years later we are still coming back for that curry. It’s so smooth and has so much flavor - garlic, cardamom, onion, it smells heavenly when they’re cooking. They also have a great coffee selection and seasonal desserts. Great for takeout too! Only 2 parking spots and often busy but easy to park nearby and walk. The cafe is slightly hidden along houses but a small wooden sign that says D-13 is out at the parking lot entrance. The front is covered in ivy. There are a few rooms with stools and chairs throughout the cafe. You can see our favorite order on repeat at...
