Chiba-chan Takadanobaba — Restaurant in Tokyo

I really enjoyed going to Chiba-chan with my friends until I noticed how rude the servers could be if you don't have a Japanese person accompanying you.

My friend and I sat down and ordered our food and drinks at once, so we wouldn't have to bother the servers anymore. 2 other groups came in right after us and sat right next to us and behind us.

We waited 20 minutes without anything on our table, not even drinks or the Otōshi they usually serve, while the 2 groups that came after us were getting all their food and drinks. One of the groups ordered the exact same food and even got their second glass of drinks that they ordered after they got their food.

The server was passing by our table multiple times to bring the food for the two tables, but did not even seem to care.

I had to check whether they didn't receive our order, and we finally got our drinks after that. The ice in the drinks were already melting and they brought our food one by one every 15 minutes after we got our drinks.

I understand that Izakaya is a very busy place at dinner time, and I appreciate all the servers for doing their jobs, but I think this was simply rude and disrespectful. I personally don't recommend foreign exchange students to visit on their own unless you have a Japanese friend...

Not the most flattering pic of Chiba-chan menu options, but I feel like this huge french fries serving is actually the only reason I would go there. C'mon who would say no to a literal french fries mountain?

This said, the first time I went to Chiba-chan was back in 2019, that summer I was travelling in Tokyo, and a close friend of mine, who was studying here, introduced me to Chiba-chan's wonders. It was kinda weird but in a good way to go there again after five years with completely different people I would've never expected becoming my friends...

I found the food quite diverse and delicious. The prices are reasonable, and the service is pretty enthusiastic. However, the restaurant is quite crowded, so you’ll need to make a reservation in advance or wait for a table. Since it’s busy, the space can be a bit noisy, and the wait time for food might be longer. But overall, it’s still a restaurant worth...
