Your experience as a foreigner summarized:

Get greeted welcomingly in English, get asked the same reduntant questions everyone get's asked through google translate, get applauded for saying thank you in Japanese but reluctantly get replied to in English if you happen to speak Japanese, get an English menu with higher prices written on it than the Japanese menu, get asked not to take pictures (I'm guessing because they don't want you to upload pictures of the menu), receive a non-fresh and overprized Sushi-Set, get gifted a cheap Sumo poster no-one would ever need in their life, get to drink some cheap free Sake while being told it's supposedly an expensive Sake, pay your overcharged money and get asked where you're heading next even though the owners have talked behind your back that they find talking with foreigners tiresome, especially if they answer more than one sentence - clearly not being interested in the travel plans of the 10000th foreign customer they come across while on the outside pretending to be extatic.

Make up your own mind if this is the experience you want but personally, this kind of restaurant which pretends to be authentic while in reality putting up a laughable play takes away any appetite...

Somehow my first night in Japan, I found this tiny place and ended up having the best Sushi of the whole trip Lovely old couple run the place and tried their best to talk to me - super kind and sweet - they ended up giving me a super cool Sumo poster The Sushi is really really good - other places are more expensive and worse. The guy really knows what he is doing and makes it right in front of you The eel especially was out of this world

Hikari Sushi in Asakusa is a hidden gem. The sushi was incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious each piece was perfectly prepared and melted in your mouth. The service was also excellent, friendly, attentive, and efficient without being overbearing. It’s a small spot, but that just adds to the charm. If you’re in Asakusa and craving quality sushi, this place is a must.
