Tried going to “Chofu Beer Works” last night to find out that they aren’t serving beer there anymore. They are still brewing, but selling to bars now as opposed to the public. But there was a sign on the door that said “Jackson Hole” bar just down the street is selling their beer on tap. So off I went.
What a find! They call the place a modern Izakaya, but this is hands down an American style country bar! Interior is so warm and cozy you don’t feel like this is in Japan at all. And…they got great craft beer on tap
Staff is very friendly, and can speak English, make you feel very welcome (which doesn't always happen here in Japan) and beer prices are “reasonable”, especially when you factor in they have imported craft beer as well as locally brewed craft beer, and this is Japan after all. Here you have a choice of bellying up to the bar, or grabbing a table upstairs as well. I’ve seen “stand-up” bars in Tokyo, but this is not your normal stand-up bar. And the place is a decent size. Just stayed for one quick beer and didn’t have a chance to try their food, but from what I see online, the pix of the food look great! Will have to try next time I go there…
They are open till midnight, and crowd on a Thursday night at 10pm was rocking. It’s a little out of the way in Chofu, but DEFINITELY worth the trip out there. You will NOT be...
Read moreThe burger was okay, nothing special and the fries were unfortunately dry. The place itself has a really cool vibe and a lot of potential, but you definitely need to make a reservation in advance, it’s hard to get a table otherwise.
What really ruined the experience, though, was the service. The girl who served us was extremely unfriendly and clearly didn’t enjoy her job. She rolled her eyes when we asked questions, seemed annoyed and gave short or no answers at all. It really felt like we weren’t welcome there.
For many people who visit because they’re excited or are fans of Nana, this can be really disappointing. Her attitude takes away from the whole atmosphere and it just felt very unprofessional overall.
I won’t be coming back and I honestly can’t recommend this...
Read moreAt first, I came here as an Ai Yazawa fan, but after a few days I returned as a newly captivated costumer. Both times I had to stay by the standing counter, as the sitting tables were fully taken (arrival time by 7:30 PM). But that was not a problem, as I so was lucky to meet some regulars there, who told me some details about the place. They said most of the options on the beer catalog were brewed by the owner himself, who was actually working there both times I visited. He was very nice and indicated the places where I could see some of Yazawa’s work exhibited in specific parts of the pub. Food was tasty and I also had there one of my best experiences with beer tasting so far. I am very glad for the time I enjoyed there and I shall visit again on my next...
