Katsura — Restaurant in Tokyo

Finally! Tonkatsu Katsura's business hours are so short, finding the right time to pay a visit was not easy. I came on a rainy weekday, just before 11am, to no queue, but to the last open seat at the counter. A line had formed outside when I left. The service was like paying a visit to a nice set of grandparents; it was warm, welcoming and attentive, and the food was the same. I'd orderd the ro-su katsu set. The tea, rice and pickles were delicious, especially the yuzu-pickled daikon. The nameko-jiru (nameko miso soup), although I couldn't taste much besides the miso, was good and heartwarming. The cabbage was crispy fresh, but the tonkatsu was a little disappointing. Breaded coating is thickly applied, and it was overfried to the point where I could almost taste bitter notes in it and where the taste of the oil seemed like it overpowered any flavors of the pork. The meat was not dry, but it lacked a "meaty chew" when biting into it. However, I would come back for the service and to try something else on their menu, and I'd come hungrier next time in order to take advantage of their "okawari" servings (seconds) of rice and cabbage. Except for the front door being left ajar and the staff wearing masks, no other COVID-19 preventive are in place. I queued here from 9:11 and the shop opened at 10:35, 25 minutes earlier from specified 11:00. I was the first guest in queue. The queue is very long after 9:50. This is the best tonkatsu ever in my life. I ordered a hirekatsu (fillet). The pork cullet is tender and juicy, while the bread crump is crispy but a little bit thick. The appetizer (pickle cucumber, radish, and cabbage) is well pickled and fragrant. The miso soup is topped with nameko. The shop is run by kind and cheerful senior couple. 土曜日、前から気になっていた、創業50年百名店！とんかつ桂さんに家族とランチで伺いました！(´∇｀)

11時オープンで10時45分頃に伺うと並びは7名様、1時間待ちカウンターにご案内頂けました！

ご年配のご夫婦経営ですが、親切、丁重なご婦人が子連れだったのでとても優しく、気遣ってくださいました！

注文は、 ロース定食 上ロース定食 レビューアーさんおすすめ！ エビフライトッピングを頂きました！

量があるので食べれるかまで心配して下さいましたが大丈夫です！ 大喰らいなので(//∇//)

先にお漬物が来ました！ 確かに量が多い！∑(ﾟДﾟ) かぶらのお漬物が水々しく、漬かりもちょうど良く美味しいです！販売してるなら買って帰りたいくらいです！（╹◡╹）♡

創業50年なので、旦那様の年齢は、、、 ご年配者とは思えない手際と素早い動き！素晴らしいです！ ですがお2人で回されていので提供に20分程かかります。お時間に余裕がある時がおすすめです！

そんな素晴らしいご夫婦のやり取りを見ていたら来ました！美味しそうなとんかつ定食！

確かに！ボリューム満点！ かなりおっきなロースカツ！∑(ﾟДﾟ)

先ずはお塩で頂きました！ 衣はザクザク！系で食べ応え抜群！ 豚肉もしっかりしてます！

このとんかつは、お塩よりソースからしが合います！ ソースからしをたっぷり付けて！ザク切りキャベツと頂くと最高！｡٩(ˊᗜˋ)و*｡ ご飯が進みます！ キャベツもザク切りがとっても合います！╰(´︶`)╯♡

エビもおっきくてプリプリ！タルタルソースも美味しくて食べ応え最高！ 美味しいです！(*//艸//)♡

なめこのお味噌！おっきな豆腐が入ってました！

どれも美味しく、これだけ食べても胸焼けなし！

久しぶりに美味しいとんかつでした！

そして、ご夫婦の人柄がとても良く常連様も多かったです。

私達が並び出してから入って行ったおひとり様の若い女性のお客様が、食べるのがゆっくりなので1時間半くらい居られましたが嫌な顔せず対応、忙しいお店なら嫌がるのですがそんな素振りもありません。私の主人がイライラしてました（笑） お2人の人柄に心和む、温かいお店でした！

12時45分、私達が出る頃には三名様程並ばれてました。
