Kura is a sushi conveyor belt chain restaurant with the added option to 'post' your plates down a chute and possibly win a little prize. Chances of winning seem to be random. You can also use an app to order and enter the game as well - this is useful for when ordering items that don't fit in the posting chute at the table and can still contribute towards an entry (5 plates in the chute / ¥500 spend via the app = 1 entry). The app is easy to find using the various advert type items you're given on the table... It's in Japanese; has limited English language options. The ordering tablet on the table also has English language options... Some translations are a bit vague or can be weird. There are pictures, though!
There are cups, hot water tap, and matcha powder at every table. This allows you to make matcha tea as strong as you like as many times as you like. Cold water is available at a communal dispenser, usually at the end of a row of seating booths. Utensils, teaspoons and condiments (sauces etc) are also on each table. Other drinks you order are either delivered by a server or will come on the conveyor belt (size depending). 85-90% of the menu comes via the conveyor belt!
When you're done, you summon the server to your table and they will finalise your bill and check they've got everything correct. You'll be given a receipt to take to the cashier on your way out.
Sushi is reasonable quality for the type of restaurant this is. There are lots of options, including meat options, as well as more side dishes like chicken, fries, and drinks.
I've eaten at a few of these conveyor belt restaurants and the only notable difference is the fact Kura does the plate chute...
Read moreThis specific sushi spot is very large so chances of waiting is slim. The price is decent, you pay per plate so eat according to what you want to pay. The green tea is unlimited as you have a hot water spout and matcha powder on the table in front of you. I think it’s fun to order dishes and watch it come down the conveyor belt and it’s also fun to wait and grab what you want from the revolving sushi bar. I didn’t win any price even though I ate 15 plates haha. How sad but the food was decent, steamed egg pudding was yummy and the seasonal sushi was good. Service was excellent, anytime you called for help the waitress was quick to respond and kindly at that. A different more modern take on sushi but a fun experience for professionals, students, kids and...
Read moreThis branch is a short walk from Jujo station. Lunch time on a weekday is not crowded so you don’t have to make any reservation.
The quality of the food was more or less consistent with other Kura Sushi branches, though the negitoro was a bit fishy to my liking.
The whole time I was in the store, I didn’t have any human interaction. My orders were correct and the same as the pictures in the electronic menu, and arrived on the sushi train to my delight. Getting the bill and paying at the self-service checkout were also smooth so I didn’t have to ask for help from the...
