Mallory Pork Steak Jiyugaoka — Restaurant in Tokyo

Pork steaks! Never seen this on a menu anywhere I’ve been before. Unique and not like steak. The service was great but we got seated on the third floor. There were a few tables up there but it felt like a storage closet with no windows. The second floor seems to be the nicest with large windows and lots of tables. The first floor is just counter seating where solo customers seem to be seated.

Pork itself was cooked well with tasty dipping sauces. Also ordered the Mallory salad. The salad was pretty bad in my opinion and not tasty. Cream spinach is great. When you order a pork steak it comes with a very small amount of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach.

I went there on June 27, 2023 for dinner with friends. The staff on 2nd floor provided us the unsatisfied and unfriendly services. For example, put the water decanter on the table with loud noise, saying the closing time faster than usual around 30-40 min like he wanted us go home quickly. Another staff at cashier on first floor also provided the rude services. I was walking down to the cashier for paying our meal. I didn’t know that there was a customer coming to pay a meal before us. So, I handed the QR code to the staff. The staff pushed my hand away with force. This is the first time that I got this unexpected service from Japan. Quite an experience. I personally is unable to eat beef due to my religion. I jumped at the opponunity at eating a pork steak.

To note that the restruant is pretty busy so you might want to arrive there before opening hours and my personally experience is we arrive about 15 minutes before opening hours and a queue is already there.

The pork served is juicy and tender like a normal beef steak. The portion I ordered is called "fujisan" (富士山). Quite a lot of meat and about 1500 yen for the meal which includes soup and 2 small sides. Definitely affordable and will visit it again next time I am in the Tokyo region.
