Menya Takeichi Hatsudai — Restaurant in Tokyo

We came to Japan for our honeymoon and happened to stay very nearby in Tokio. We were tired after the flight, went out of the hotel, and walked into this place randomly, because it was the closest one. We both chose different ramens and were blown away how rich was the taste of the broth. The meat and noodles were amazing, and other toppings were awesome too. We decided it was the best ramen we’ve had ever and couldn’t stop thinking about it for 3.5 weeks. On the last day of our trip we returned to the place to see if the opinion was skewed due to travel fatigue and fresh ‚wow’ effect of Japan. Turns out it wasn’t. Stayed at Art Hotels Shibuya and found this spot just a short walk away. Prices are really good for travelers and the portions are big enough to fill you up. Staff were friendly and welcoming even if you don’t speak Japanese.

Ordering is easy — you just use the machine, pay, and hand the ticket to the staff. Food came out fast and tasted great. They also serve free water in a jug, which is super handy.

A solid place to grab a meal if you’re around Hatsudai/Shibuya....

Really great ramen - so much better than you get in the UK! The ordering system is a little unusual for Westerners - you select your order on a vending machine type object by the door and it's then brought to your seat. The staff were incredibly helpful and patient with us - one staff member who spoke English took us through the system. It was very reasonably priced...
