We were walking through Ueno park and we found this little Dango cafe. We didn't know what to expect, we never had Oden before, but our kids love Dango so we decided to come in. Turns out this place has the best Dango we've ever had. And the boys loved the Oden too which is an assortment of bean curd, fish cake, kelp and more. The dish is cooked in dashi soup. We had to put in a second order for both Oden and Dango. I ordered the matcha tea and azuki bean soup and it was also amazing. The texture of the soup was the smoothest I've ever had. The soup was sweet so they served it with a small amount of salted kelp to balance out the sweetness which was perfect!
The lady who we assumed was the chef or owned this cafe was very kind and welcoming. She knew we were tourist and made sure we knew how to enjoy all the items we ordered. Her food was truly like art, we made sure we told her that despite the little Japanese we knew.
We definitely recommend trying this place, the menu isn't big and the items are necessarily 'instagram pretty', but be adventurous and open minded and you never know what you end up falling in...
Read moreThis was a lovely little tea house. I had the tea and dango set which was ¥700. It came with a refreshing and tasty cup of cold green tea and 3 types of dango. Each were marshmallowy soft and delicious. They paired wonderfully with the tea.
The staff were warm and welcoming. There was traditional Japanese music playing over the speakers which added to the atmosphere. Though it is listed as a traditional tea house, the seating and tables are conventional so you don't have to worry about sitting on the floor.
I really liked this place and will be sure to visit again. This place is a must visit if you want some nice tea and tasty snacks as a break from your walk...
Read moreIt’s my first time eating dango and they are simply melt-in-the-mouth soft delicious Jap dessert! This shop has been around since 1915 and the dango here is made with smooth bean paste in 3 flavours. A bit sweet for me (I’m the type who drinks bubble tea with zero sugar) but the free flow of warm green tea is a perfect complement to the dessert. It’s next to the Ueno zoo entrance - a quaint Jap dessert shop on top some rocks. Sorry but no dango pic cos I gobbled them...
