Small place with 24 seats and a hard-to-describe atmosphere. Maybe converted from an izakaya? A few Nepali pictures and the staff seems quite Nepali, but it feels sort of Chinese in some way. Not related to the Thai items on the menu? Japanese TV and Wi-Fi available.
Chicken okra curry of the day had a nice thick sauce and generous ingredients. Unuusually big okra and tender chicken, but one of my chicken pieces was an odd cut. Spice level was negotiable, but I could have guessed a bit stronger. The naan was sweet and on the heavy side. The salad looked odd, but was tastier than I expected. The coffee had such an odd flavor that I asked about it. Nothing special, but perhaps an odd pot. Overall I'll have to call it a low four stars.
Special complaints about Google Maps this time. The directions were terrible. Shiva is actually in a convenient location right in front of the station, but the directions made it seem to be somewhere else. I wound up looking for another Indian place that has apparently been permanently closed, but that was much farther from the station and in such a bad neighborhood that I'd be worried if I wandered there after dark. Around the station seems to be okay, but thatt area struck me as a tough neighborhood and I noticed lots of gang signs around. The name actually caught my eye because an old friend used it as a nickname...
Read moreI think I found my new favourite Indian curry restaurant. The food was so good I started eating right away - no time for photos! 🤤
✅ Amazing garlic naan!! It wasn't doughy or soggy - it was perfectly light, crispy and covered evenly in garlic. You can tell a real chef cooked it. Probably the best garlic naan I've had in Japan. ✅ Relatively large portion size of curry. My spinach chicken curry was filled with meat! Don't judge the curry based on the photos in the menu, it looks a lot better in person! ✅ Lovely mango lassi. Not watered down at all, it tasted fresh and sweet. ✅ Great cost performance: garlic naan + spinach chicken curry + mango lassi set me back about 1400 yen ✅ Bustling, energetic transparent kitchen, warm and polite staff with good hygiene practices ✅ Huge tv, which is a plus for solo eaters who aren't glued to their phones ✅ Clean, quite spacious (probably room to fit about 20 people), very close to Oimachi Station
It's really the type of restaurant that you want to do well and never close down. Thank you for the...
Read moreFood is normal but if you eat in you can’t get take out containers. They can wrap your nan but not the curry. They do not offer containers for an extra price either. It sucks as I’m 8 1/2 months pregnant and can’t eat a full meal in one sitting right now. They do have take out and Uber eats so it’s not a case of they don’t...
