Shutters Jiyugaoka — Restaurant in Tokyo

The most popular dish here are the pork ribs. You can order the ribs in sets of 4 with the most popular flavor being Soy sauce based. Other flavors include Garlic, Basil, Ketchup, Mustard, Wasabi, and the last I believe it was Mayonnaise? Anyway, we ordered the Soy Sauce, the Garlic and the Basil pork ribs. The Soy Sauce ones were brought out quickly as they seem to cook those more frequently as they are the most popular. About 15 minutes later, came the Basil and the Garlic ones.

Flavor-wise, the ribs were delicious, and super tender. We also ordered a salad and garlic toast which were also tasty.

The reduction of one star was due to price. It costs 2100 yen for only 4 ribs, which is quite steep. The prices of the other items here were also expensive. So in total, 8 ribs, one regular salad, and 2 pieces of garlic toast came out to about 6400 yen for lunch (and we only had water).

I guess it being in Jiyugaoka, which is an affluent neighborhood in Tokyo, may have something to do with the high prices.

The restaurant decor is nothing special, pretty basic, but at least the food was good.

I'm probably not going to come back due to the high prices but it was a good one time experience.

Overpriced, skimpy, flavourless. It looked like they steamed the ribs that came out flaccid and colourless with a stingy af covering of sauce to get some pretense of flavour. I do not understand how in a city with so many good places closing down restaurants like this remain popular to the point there is a now a chain of them. The apple pie, which is supposedly the star here is instagrammable and kind of sort of the saving grace. Smothered in whatever sauce you choose along with a decent serve of some average ice-cream you kind of want to believe that the one or two pieces of apple hiding in the butter free puff pastry might hold some excitement for thus far disappointed tastebuds. I went there for a special dinner with my fiancé and it was great. We had salad, spare ribs, garlic bread, pasta and the apple pie. Everything was delicious and the service was good. With drinks (and sharing the salad and dessert) the bill was 14,000 yen.

It's a bit pricey but great for special occasions or when you want to splurge a little bit. Please note that the pasta size is small because it's meant to be enjoyed as one of several courses, not as a main. Because of this, Shutters isn't a good choice for a...
