One of the best thing about Japan is the accessibility to super fresh, high quality, delicious sushi. We got to visit really nice sushi spot in Tokyo. They had interesting “window” on the wall, really thin, long opening that let you peek into the sushi counter. It keeps privacy without being completely separated from the outside world.
Right at the entrance is their large sushi counter. We didn’t have a reservation, but we were able to sit at the counter. They have table seating in the back, and it seemed like there was a big party going on back there. The sushi chefs were making crazy amount of sushi for them with precision and great efficiency.
The interesting part about them is that they are ready to welcome non-Japanese customers, with menu in both Japanese and English. The English menu also have explanation of fish parts used for sushi and sashimi, and also all kinds of basic sushi dishes.
We received complimentary appetizer, which was fresh squid. How awesome is that! It was perfectly cooked, chewy but firm, tasty and a great way to start the sushi feast.
We ordered Today’s Sashimi Special plate. This sashimi plate was for two people portion. It was beautifully plated, with super fresh sashimi pieces. It had Katsuo, Madai, Raw Octopus, Kohada, Horse Mackerel, Scallop, and Aoyagi. They were really great, with just the right firm texture. They were plump, fresh and delicious. They were nice and thick, but not too thick. Each sashimi piece was carefully sliced and we enjoyed them all.
We enjoyed our sashimi dinner, and the staffs were very kind and welcoming. They have free WiFi and again, having menu available in Japanese and English was a big plus. I love fining these kind of hidden spot. Read my full review of this restaurant and food on my food blog,...
Read moreThis location has a speakeasy or hidden vibe to it. From the exterior, you can only see a sliver into the restaurant with the sushi bar. Our group had no reservations, but we welcomed and were seated at the sushi bar which is the best seat in the house.
We were only staying a few days in the immediate area of Shinagawa, but this sushi location accommodates a lot of foreigner and Japanese. There was a group of over twenty Japanese people being served in their backroom.
For the food, we were offered a complimentary appetizer with fresh squid. The squid was cooked wonderfully. Then our group ordered the Today’s Sashimi Special plate for 2,100 yen per person. The sashimi came with Katsuo, Madai (Japanese Snapper), Raw Octopus, Kohada (Gizzard Shad), Horse Mackerel, Scallop, and Aoyagi (Round Clam Shellfish). The sashimi was very firm and plump. All of the pieces were large. It was great to be prepared right in front of your eyes. After the plate, we ordered two more a la carte items. They had a full English menu with extensive explanations which is pretty good for Japan. The a la carte items were Egg omelet for 200 yen and Ikuria sushi or Salmon Roe for 500 yen
Overall, this small local place is a great spot for a lot or a little sushi in Tokyo. I hope to come back for my next visit if I am...
Read moreI loved how the old man tried to speak in English with us when we asked about the menu!
You can eat a bow of sushi with ¥500! I choose the special one. The set includes miso soup (with fish! 😱) and salad. Green tea and Wi-Fi are free.
I also read in the menu if you go there when it's raining, you can choose a topping for free!...
