British cuisine often gets a bad reputation for being bland and uninspired, but Swan and Lion proves it can be quite the opposite. With ingredients that are carefully sourced and prepared, they offer a wide range of traditional favourites catering to all tastes.
The portion sizes are just right, and the prices fair. They also offer a wide range of imported drinks and cocktails.
This cosy yet upmarket spot fits perfectly in the Nakameguro area — it's not a pub with squeaky floors, nor is it a snobby high-class restaurant. It's a stylish yet homely spot, just right for a quiet weekday lunch or a pleasant evening date. The staff are very attentive and friendly and will make any visit a pleasant one.
Fish and Chips is of course on the menu and whilst it's some of the best I've had in Tokyo, I recommend giving some of the other items a go too. You may be pleasantly surprised at the range of flavours and experiences that British food can offer.

Read moreAs a Brit who’s been away from the UK for a few months, I was seriously craving some home comforts—and this place delivered beyond expectations! The Sunday Roast beef dinner was hands down the best I’ve had in a long time. The beef was beautifully tender, the gravy rich and flavourful, and the sticky toffee pudding was just perfect. I was especially impressed by the selection of real British cheeses—proper mature cheese like you’d find back home. (Cheddar, red Leicester and blue cheese)
The fish and chips were also spot on, and the menu offered plenty of great options to choose from. The service was warm, polite, and genuinely friendly. The owner even came over to say hello and had a lovely chat with us, which made the experience feel all the more personal.
If you’re after a Sunday dinner, be sure to arrive before 3pm—it’s well worth it. A heartfelt thank you for making a fellow Brit feel...
Read moreBit of a late review. However, myself and three friends went for dinner 24December. I can honestly say the best British food I’ve eaten in Tokyo since 1066. If anyone remembers that place. Stewart & Ian I think were super kind and accommodating. We ate roast beef with spot on Yorkshire Pudding , Xmas pie with all the trimmings and roast pork done proper as I remember it from the Uk. Apple sauce an all. Xmas pudding home made was excellent and the sticky toffee pudding is up there with the best. Being a sticky toffee pudding junkie I’ve sampled many. Not forgetting the roast spuds with all dishes. Service was great and although not the typical British / Irish pub decor it didn’t matter as it was clean with friendly staff and the menu is why we went there and all were more than satisfied with that. Looking forward to visiting again this year. Nice one all at the fabulous...
