DON’T GO HERE! The giant, store bought fish is not worth it. (It’s true, it’s not fresh)
We were greeted by a spider crawling over the plate before we even got our soup. Then bugs, flies, nonstop phone ringing and in attentiveness interrupted occasionally with attitude from the staff.
No offer for drinks so I had to beg for a sake.
If you don’t speak and read Japanese fluently, just turn around because you won’t be welcomed. If you are inspired to eat from a social media post, it’s all fluff. The restaurant actually doesn’t like that because it brings in foreigners and additionally guests who may find the portion sizes too big to finish all the bland wasabi-aroma rice.
They will ridicule you if you don’t finish everything yet there is no menu nor will they explain what are the options. So, you’re left to choose from basically small, medium or large.
If you’re hungry and can speak Japanese fluently, どうぞ. If you’re not, save your yen and find...
My BILINGUAL JAPANESE friend and I (also bilingual and Japanese) live in Mitaka and heard good things about the sushi at Wakasazushi. We called over five times to make a reservation, but were unable to secure one as the phone was never picked up or the line was busy. We still really wanted to try the sushi here so we decided to bike to the store and visit in order to confirm that the number we were calling was the correct one. Our only goal was to confirm this information in order to secure a future reservation. We had no expectation of being seated that day. However, upon arrival, we were rudely admonished by the store owner. He told us not to come if we didn't have a reservation because it would be a waste of money for transportation (we biked). We asked if the number we were calling was the correct one, which was our only purpose for going. He responded by saying that it was the correct number and not to show up, refusing to answer our question of how to secure a reservation if they never pick up the phone. This is no way to treat potential customers. Even after he was initially rude to us, my friend and I very politely asked questions because we were that interested in experiencing the sushi at this store. We explained our situation (we are Japanese and speak it fluently), but the employee continued to be extremely rude to us. He never opened the door fully and shut it in our faces after he said his piece. Wakasazushi has lost our business and our respect. We will not be returning. Maybe he will be happier this way since he told us...
Read moreYou may see others writing reviews saying how unkind the owner is, in reality he’s super kind. The ones who complain don’t bother to learn the language, take picture of the food without finishing it or barely eating it, and behave as if it’s their own country. Usual behaviour you’d expect from americans and other westerners. always expecting everyone to speak english, even in non english speaking countries. narcissistic and atrocious of them. now, the food quality of this restaurant is beyond amazing. big portions, taste that will make you second guess why you didn’t come here earlier, 10/10 would recommend. and again, LEARN...
