Yakiniku Jumbo Shirokane is hands down one of our all-time favorite yakiniku restaurants in Tokyo. We’ve been here twice, and the wagyu quality is consistently top-tier — incredibly tender cuts like zabuton and misuji that practically melt in your mouth. You can order à la carte and grill the meat yourself, or opt for a full-service course where the staff handles everything for you. We’ve done both and loved the experience either way. The atmosphere is cozy, slightly dim, and elegant without being intimidating. Despite the upscale feel, we had no issues dining here with our young kids — in fact, the staff were warm and welcoming, even gifting our daughters a small toy after the meal. If you’re visiting as a family, I recommend going for an early dinner around 5 or 5:30 PM when it’s quieter and easier to settle in.
The space is a little tight, so we folded our stroller before entering. There are high chairs and baby utensils available upon request, and the staff were extremely accommodating throughout. English menus are available, and while not all staff speak fluent English, a mix of basic phrases and gestures was more than enough. Prices are definitely on the splurge end — we spent about ¥7,000 to ¥13,000 per adult, depending on what we ordered and whether we chose the full course. Reservations are required, and there’s a ¥500 non-refundable fee when booking. Do note that cancellation fees apply depending on the time and course selected (¥10,000–15,000 per person for dinner), so be sure of your plans...
Read moreWe went here before our flight back home because it’s one of our favorite places in Tokyo, but this time was very disappointing. I only asked for a plastic plate (not even a takeaway container) so my child could finish her meal in the car to the airport (she would have finished in under 15 minutes). The waitress with long hair and glasses responded in an unpleasant, confrontational way, saying they were “worried about my health,” as if I planned to take the meat home for hours. Yet the restaurant itself sells takeaway meat bentos on Uber Eats — what’s the difference? It wasn’t even my meal, it was my child’s, and the meat wasn’t medium/medium rare, so there should have been no issue. The cashier was initially kinder to me but ended up siding with the waitress in the same tone, even worse.
After two wonderful weeks in Japan, our last day was ruined by our favorite restaurant. Rules are one thing, but the way they were enforced with no flexibility was deeply disappointing. And yes, I already know what the reply will be: “it’s our rule”, but rules don’t excuse RUDENESS.
Well, Jumbo is always fully booked and in such high demand, I guess one unhappy customer’s Google review won’t...
Yakiniku Jumbo Shirokane has stated that they do not welcome solo diners, both now and in the future. I was told that they are announcing a policy of not welcoming solo diners. (It seems that you cannot book for one, and generally, you cannot enter without a reservation.)
Recently, around 10 PM, I got a craving for yakiniku and called this restaurant, only to be told it was too late to enter. At the same time, I tried to make an online reservation and realized that it was impossible to book for just one person on any date. When I asked if there were any seats available, I was told there were many. "Since I can't book for any day and there are open seats, I'd like to make a reservation over this call," but was told reservations could only be made online and was advised to check the system again the next day. Believing the reservation system would not change by the next day, I insisted on making a phone reservation, only to be put on hold for several minutes and then the call was disconnected.
When I inquired directly at the restaurant, the woman who had disconnected the call dealt with me, stating that the system was set to not allow bookings for less than two people, and the restaurant had not been notified, denying that the call was disconnected. She was laughing throughout the issue, showing no intention to apologize, only shifting the blame onto others. A few minutes later, a tall man who seemed to be drunk and likely the manager, emerged from a place like a changing room. Without understanding the essence of the problem, he just repeated "It's the company's policy." His attitude was far from resolving the situation or apologizing, trying to settle the matter with an intimidating atmosphere, reminiscent of old yakuza movies.
Throughout this whole interaction, the smirking woman and slightly drunk man stood together, merely stating, "We will post that solo reservations cannot be made," without any word of apology.
As for the 15,000 yen lunch set I ordered, the filet steak was too fatty, and the overall seasoning was overly sweet, making it quite cloying. Personally, only the beef tongue and oxtail soup passed the test.
There was absolutely no respect for the customer. It wasn't that delicious either. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and I will not visit again based on...
