I came to Tottori on a quest for the best wagyu in Japan. Unfortunately, smoking realities in Japan, combined with some restaurants still being closed for the New Year holiday, made finding a non-smoking beef restaurant quite difficult. I had literally checked a dozen restaurants, all over town, with no luck. This place was the last on my list. They looked closed, but the door was unlocked, so I went in. One of the owners confirmed they were still closed for the holidays. But, when I told her about my disappointing quest, she told me to wait while she spoke to her husband. Next thing I knew, they were offering to open up their restaurant for only me. The beef was absolutely amazing! Each table has it's own charcoal grill, as opposed to the usual gas variety. Pricing was very fair for this type of meal. The owners understand English rather well.
Japan is full of nice people. But, the kindness of these two, is truly unsurpassed. They interrupted their brief holiday to provide me with excellent dining and conversation I will never forget. During the meal, I was planning how I would get them to accept a 50% tip (tipping is not done in Japan) on the meal since they had been so kind to me. In the end, despite repeated protests from me, they refused to accept any money at all. Wagyu quest fulfilled and mind blown. I am eternally grateful. Arigato...
Read moreWe made a reservation well in advance for FukFuk, a yakiniku gem in Tottori, and pre-ordered their signature FukuFuku course. The set meal was an absolute feast, packed with a variety of dishes: juicy steak, wagyu sushi, pork, chicken, beef, vegetables, soup, rice, and even dessert. For the price, it’s an incredible steal—portion and quality far exceeded expectations. The restaurant uses Manyo beef, which boasts perfectly balanced marbling. Each bite melts in your mouth without feeling overly greasy, striking just the right note. The owner’s fluent English made the experience even better, as he patiently explained how to pair the meats with different sauces, elevating the meal. His warmth and attention to detail kept the entire dining process delightful. We enjoyed it so much that we added an order of beef tongue and two portions of kalbi to keep the feast going. This place is a must-visit, and we’re already looking forward to our next trip back. Deliciousness Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5) Service Attitude: ★★★★☆ (4/5) Value for Money: ★★★★★ (5/5) Likelihood of...
Read moreThis is a terrific place to eat! They serve yakiniku-style food over a coal grill, you can choose from different types of meat (including wagyu), chicken and vegetables. The food that is served is sourced locally, and we enjoyed every single piece of food that we ordered. Even the rice was incredible! And do not miss out on the brown sugar ice cream if they have it, it finishes off the meal in the nicest way. Also, the owners were very accommodating and sweet. One of the owners speaks English proficiently, which is helpful if your Japanese isn't up to speed. Great service, great food, and reasonably priced. Much recommended if you are in Tottori!
P.S. The restaurant is located on the second floor. Looks a little anonymous when you are on the street...
