The moment I stepped into Masala Master, I knew that it would be a great Indian restaurant because I immediately became one with the spices. The place is quite spacious, and they have what looks like tatami seating with hollow below the table so you can sit like you normally do on a chair. I ordered Raja set with mutton dopyaja curry and special naan. Soup and salad were okay, and the dressing was mild. The tikka was tender, very well marinated, and the flavor was strong. I like it so much. The mutton curry has big chunks of meat and is also tender. However, I am not a fan of its musky odor... I got it quite strong. The special naan, however, was the star of the meal. My curry is spicy hot, but with the help of cheese and sweetness from the fruit, as well as the nuts, it got milder and I really recommend it compared to garlic cheese naan because it won't make your tongue palates heavy and overwhelmed. Mango lassi was also refreshing. The server is nice, responsive, and very helpful to explain the dishes. They serve small sweet fennel mints in front of the cashier, and I...

Food and service Quality is very good compared to other Indian and Nepal restaurants in Japan. Also every curry has a distinct taste (so it’s not like other indian restaurants where different curries on menu have mostly same taste) even though the base of the curry is mostly same with variations like cream, spices and add ons. Interior is simple and clean and spacious. The Japanese style floor seating (horigotatsu) is comfortable
Grilled menu is fresh, well cooked and flavorful. Naan is fresh baked in the tandoori oven but slightly over oiled. But overall a very good experience, good food, good staff and atmosphere. Highly recommended

Read moreWent here on a whim to try non-Japanese curry in Japan. This place is legit good. Got the Raja set which comes with rice or naan, curry of your choice, and a slew of other sides. Got the naan and mutton curry at hot spiciness as well as a mango lassi for the options. Hot was legit hot. Do not do that if you can't handle the heat. I personally should've done medium, so that's my fault. The mango lassi had actual mangoes in it which was great. Everything tasted great. Wasn't expecting such a find in Tsuruoka...
