Wakadaisho is an absolute culinary treasure in Yakushima, and I can’t recommend it highly enough! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the super friendly staff who made us feel right at home. Their warm hospitality set the tone for an unforgettable dining experience.
The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the sashimi. It was absolutely divine—each piece was incredibly fresh and bursting with flavor. The fish was the meatiest I've ever eaten, and you could truly taste the difference in quality. The presentation was exquisite, showcasing the vibrant colors and textures of the fish, making it a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. It’s evident that the chefs at Wakadaisho take great pride in sourcing the best ingredients, and their dedication to quality shines through in every bite.
As we savored each piece of sashimi, we couldn’t help but marvel at how it surpassed our expectations. Whether you're a local or a tourist, it's no wonder that Wakadaisho is a favorite among many. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a leisurely meal while soaking in the charm of Yakushima.
We often reminisce about our experience at Wakadaisho, dreaming of the day we can return to indulge in that incredible sashimi once more. It’s the kind of place that leaves a lasting impression, and I can’t wait to share it with friends and family when we’re back on the island.
In addition to the outstanding food, the value for the quality offered is remarkable. The combination of fresh, meaty fish, welcoming service, and a cozy atmosphere makes Wakadaisho a must-visit destination for anyone in Yakushima. If you’re looking for an authentic dining experience that showcases the best of local cuisine, look no further than Wakadaisho. You’re in...
Read moreJust had one of the most amazing meals of my life here. I ordered the Fried Flying Fish, the Yaku-Shika which is a small deer native only to yakushima lightly seared by torch, the fried tempura local fish and the local sweet potato sake. Everything was caught same day including the deer. The staff was incredibly friendly and gave great service. At the end of our meal the chef gave us a free sampler of Sashimi which was very touching and meant a lot to my friend and I as that was the only local dish we did not order.
We compared the japanese menu to the english and there was really only a few extra items on the japanese menu like octopus and a few types of vegetable tempura, and prices were the same on both menus.
I would give this place greater than 5 stars if I could. It was truly a wonderful experience with incredible food and truly made me and my friend feel welcome to Yakushima on our...
Read moreI had the fortune of sitting in front of the chef and had a great time seeing him work his magic. He's the main person cutting the fish (our tour guide told us that this shop has their own fishing boat, so what we eat is the local catch of the day), he also occasionally does the frying and he helps to wash the dishes when he's not too busy. The sashimi platter was a great choice for trying out all the different variety, the nigri platter had even higher quality part of the fish (along with amazing shrimp), their local (Nagata) tofu was soft and went well with just the soy sauce, and the highlight for me was the broken neck mackerel with ponzu sauce. Occasionally, the chef gives me a small sample and asks me if I think things are yummy 😋 Great experience, if you ever want to try local fish, this is the place
P.s. something about their soy sauce just...
