It’s basic, clean and service is good. Looks like a family owned business and they went out of their way to help us.
Eg. Dad helping us to carry luggage up to second storey Eg. Mom was struggling with English but got her daughter to help us immediately. Eg. After knowing that we plan to go Jomon Sugi, checks in whether we know which bus / way to go Eg. Provided us with Marie Biscuits for our first day of hike at Shira Tani Onsuikyo Eg. It was raining on our last day to the port, although it’s just a stones throw away from the accommodation, we had planned to take the bus for a stop becos of the rain. Owner very nicely offered to drive us there. Eg. Didn’t hesitate to change old cash notes with us (becos buses can’t accept new cash notes)

I'm currently staying at a wonderful homestay on Yakushima Island, and it has been an exceptional experience. The host is incredibly warm and considerate. After returning from a multi-day hike completely soaked from heavy rain 🌧️🏞️, they graciously allowed me to check in two hours early to dry my things and rest. They even offered the use of a washing machine for all my wet clothing, which was a lifesaver 🧺.
The room has a cozy, homey vibe with a pleasant scent, and everything is new and impeccably clean 🛏️✨. The shared kitchen is freely accessible and features an electric oven for cooking local fish, adding a nice touch to the stay 🐟🍽️. Seeing me eating just fish, the host kindly offered me a bowl of mixed vegetables, which was both thoughtful and delicious 🥗. They also took the time to ask about my adventures, making me feel genuinely welcomed and cared for.
Additionally, the convenience of having a bus stop right in front of the guesthouse is an added bonus 🚌🏠. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting...
Read moreOn yakushima, your choices of lodging is very limited. It's either minshuku (homestyle bed & breakfast) or really really expensive resort. Often times things get booked up really quickly. Kaisei is very affordable. Around $180CAD for two nights for 2 people, breakfast included. We get our own room, private shower and toilet, which is actually a rare find in minshuku. Kaisei is extremely convenient, it's located right beside the Miyanora port; restaurants and shops within walking distance. (Not that you would walk on Yakushima, we rented a car, the car rental place is also close to Kaisei). It's also located close to the mountain way to get to shiratani hiking trail.||||||Our breakfast was delicious, the bento box they packed for our hiking trip was also very delicious and cheap. We have a Japanese style room with towels and everything provided. Our hosts speak very limited English, but through hand gestures they were able to book us an evening to watch sea turtle laying eggs and giving us directions to all of our...
