山中湖畔のステーキ酒場 — Restaurant in Yamanakako

my travel partner was a huge fan of this place! I thought the price point was worth it, for 2300 yen I got 300g of beef shoulder, comes with a soup, rice (you can choose sizes for your rice, medium was plenty for me) and some preserved vegetables! Meat was tender and medium rare, just the way I ordered it.

Fair warning though if you are sitting indoors, you’re going to come out smelling like BBQ, it’s a hella smoky restaurant, I sat outside and still smelled of BBQ, but alas you can’t get away from that at a hot plate spot I suppose 🥲

The steak at this restaurant was disappointing. My wife and I ordered the premium shoulder steak, but what I received was tough, overcooked, and of poor quality. My wife's steak was full of tendons and completely inedible. Even after she sent it back, they tried to serve it again just cut up. She had to ask again for a new steak and that wasn't much better. Overall, a 2/10 experience at best. Not sure how this place has over 4 stars. It has put me off eating...

Exceptionally good steak served sizzling on a hotplate. This is a popular place with the locals, and for good reason. The meat is tender, delicious and perfectly seasoned. There is an English menu and the staff are welcoming and kind. An excellent spot for lunch. I had the smallest serving of meat, and with the sides it made a perfectly sized lunch.
