It was a weekday noon, the asphalt radiating heat under the relentless sun. Around Yokohama Station, ramen shops of the heavy “iekei” variety lined the streets—rich, fatty bowls that had begun to wear me down. I found myself yearning: Was there no such thing as a simple, honest shoyu ramen around here?
That was when I stumbled upon Nagaoka Shokudo.
Specializing in ginger-infused shoyu ramen from Niigata, its signboard caught my eye, and without hesitation I stepped inside.
I ordered the half-chashu ramen. From the steaming bowl rose a fragrance—soy sauce softened with a delicate note of ginger. The first sip surprised me: refined, almost restrained. Pleasant, yet leaving me wanting just a little more.
And then the answer revealed itself. On the table stood a small jar of freshly grated ginger. With a spoonful stirred in, the soup suddenly came alive—balanced, sharp, and complete. It felt almost as if the dish had been designed with that final touch in mind.
Outside, the riverside streets shimmered in merciless heat, with no shade in sight. But for that brief moment, the bowl before me offered a sense of coolness, a fleeting relief. Ah, perhaps summer is already drawing...
Surrounded by relatively large commercial facilities, this Ramen restaurant stands like a single house. The interior as well as the exterior is mainly made of light-colored wood, and the restaurant's symbol is prominently displayed, making it easy to find. As you can see from the exterior, the restaurant is small and cozy, with about 30 seats. Moreover, there are several pillars in the restaurant, giving the impression of being a little cramped. When using the restaurant with several people, such as friends, it is not recommended to meet in the restaurant. Also, as mentioned above, the restaurant is small and there are steps at the entrance and exit, so it's not recommended for wheelchair users. You must purchase a meal ticket in advance from the ticket vending machine located just inside the entrance. The Ramen is particularly refreshing and easy to eat. However, the ginger flavor is relatively strong, and it seems to get stronger the more you eat. Those who want to enjoy the soup to the end need to be careful. Water is self-service, using water machines located in...

I would say the quality of ramen really surprised me. The only thing to make it even better is if they could sell gyoza, pan fried dumpling. Decor and atmosphere is great, clean and...
