I just returned from a late lunch at the Brasserie at Tiffin, where we both ordered the fish and chips. Unfortunately, when our meals arrived, we noticed that both pieces of fish were quite dark and appeared to be cooked a bit too long. I managed to eat mine as it only affected the end, but my mother’s thinner piece was so dry that it was inedible. She decided to return the meal to the waiter.

When it came time to pay, they had only removed half the value of the fish and chips, claiming my mother had eaten half of it. This was not the case, as most of it was inedible, and she had barely taken a few bites. I raised my concerns with the manager, but she insisted my mother had eaten half, which I strongly disagreed with. I explained that I was willing to pay for food that was satisfactory, but she dismissed my concerns, saying I just didn’t want to pay for what I had eaten. I acknowledged that my thicker cut of fish was less dry, but that didn’t excuse the poor quality of my mother’s meal.

The situation escalated when she told me to get my card for a refund and said, "just don’t come back." I was shocked by her attitude. When I retrieved my mother’s card, she apologized for her earlier comments, attributing her behavior to a stressful day with a new system. However, her apology felt insincere after accusing me of trying to avoid paying for food I hadn’t enjoyed.

As a tourist, I am taken aback by the attitude of the manager in a restaurant located in such a historic department store in St. Helier. This experience was disappointing, especially given the reputation...

We had a lovely experience at The Brasserie at De Gruchy's. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. A special thank you to Gigi and Charlie, who were particularly kind and attentive – especially with my 11-month-old daughter. They made sure we were seated with plenty of space for our pram and group of three, which made a big difference. The high chair was clean and secure, and their friendly, thoughtful service really stood out. Highly recommended...

We came here for lunch on our first day on the island. Great atmosphere, clean and food was exceptional! We had the fishfinger sandwich, veggie ciabatta, and mushrooms in a Roquefort sauce on toast. All dishes were fab, came with a well dressed salad too. The service was also excellent, we came back on our second day for coffee! Would definitely recommend and would come back here if visiting the...
