Totally disappointed with your hospitality and customer service orientation. Asked your counter manager if they would be able to accommodate space for 8-pax (lunch). I did share that I have come first while the others (with kids) are walking over after parking. They agreed and told me to go upstairs. I believed and went upstairs to sit and wait for my guests to come. However I was literally chased away after sitting down by your service personnel in less than 5 minutes of waiting. Your service personnel made me feel unwelcome and like as if I am there for free food. I went back down to express my grief to your counter manager who told me to go upstairs and she told me that they cannot wait and need me to eat and leave soon because they have a huge crowd waiting. I agree that you may have yotu house rules, if so why did you invite me to sit upstairs? Why did your service personnel have to treat me so lowly and cheaply? To make things clear, this happened within 5 minutes after I went up and not giving the benefit of doubt of 10 to 15 mins for guests to arrive. You seem to treat foreigners better than your own people. Extremely disappointing. You may think that you are the best (obviously not because there are other better players too), but customers deserve some respect too. We do not deserve to be treated like we are there for free food. We pay your premium price, we don't deserve to be treated or made felt low/cheap. Maybe your place is only reserved for the elites like Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and maybe Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg etc in future. The message has been made very clear to me. I am a common man and I shall just visit a regular humble place to eat out with my family friends. Just for record sake, I walked over to Madras Woodlands located in the next lane and they welcomed me and my family gladly. They patiently waited for them to come and in return I gave them a quick business of more than $200 (over at your place with your premium pricing it could have been more). Moral of the story: If you are common man like me, dont patronise Komala Vilas. However if you are an elite or dont mind their ill service, Komala Vilas should be your go to abode. Thanks for this lesson learnt. I am never...

Absolutely Terrible Experience: Avoid at All Costs

I don’t even know where to start with this disaster of a meal. First of all, if you ever find yourself considering this place, RUN AWAY. The food was atrocious, and the service was downright insulting.

We ordered the Indian dosa and vada, two of the most basic and beloved dishes, yet somehow they managed to mess them up beyond recognition. The dosa was soggy, limp, and clearly sat around for too long. It was more like a sad, soggy pancake than anything resembling the crispy, golden, flavorful dosa it should’ve been. The vada? Don’t even get me started. Overcooked and greasy, like they dunked it in a pool of oil and forgot it existed. Absolutely revolting.

And as if that wasn’t enough to ruin my appetite, the staff? Unbelievably rude. The person who served us, a man named Raja, acted as though we were inconveniencing him simply by placing an order. No manners, no courtesy—just a cold, dismissive attitude like we were lucky to be there. It’s baffling how someone like that is still allowed to work in hospitality.

To top it all off, the bill was as inflated as their egos. $15 for that level of subpar food? It’s an insult to anyone who knows what real Indian cuisine tastes like.

I’ll be attaching pictures and a copy of the bill so you can see just how bad it was. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs. There’s no excuse for food and service this bad, and it’s clear they don’t care about their customers one bit.

I really don’t know how this place has a high rating on Google—unless, of course, those reviews are being paid for, because this was the worst dining experience I’ve...

I've been eating here since 2007. They used to make excellent, consistently wholesome food. The quality has suffered considerably over the years. The dosas are overly fermented, burnt, and sour to the taste, the filter coffee is like so much hot water, and even the South Indian meals feature tasteless side dishes with sometimes uncooked vegetables. Their most tasty food is the sambar but that too, one can find more flavorful versions at other restaurants. In my most recent visit, I even saw a little cockroach crawling up the side of the shelf where they store the fried snacks. They really really have to get their act together. Their only claim to fame is that they started in 1947, the same year, coincidentally, as India's independence. Because they were the one of the first, they are the most popular and crowds of tourists to Little India flock to this restaurant unaware that there are much better options: near Mustafa, try the Bangalore Cafe or Nagercoil Arya Bhavan or Murugan Idli. Or on Race Course road, try Spice junction (for Malayalee food) or any of the other Tamil restaurants. It's a shame because this used to be my favorite place to eat at in the late 2000s and early 2010s. These days, I go there only if I am lazy to walk farther to another restaurant. And when I do, I always regret it, and also feel like telling all the tourists to try other restaurants. If you must eat here, please do not order north-India dishes (like naan, roti, paneer masala, etc.) because this is a south-Indian restaurant. The north Indian food is not their forte. Try instead the poori, idli-sambar, upma, pongal, dosa, etc.
