La Casona Tipica is a casual dive restaurant offering a menu of traditional Costa Rican food. The Casado is a typical lunch dish of Costa Rica, and their version came with rice, beans, fried plantains, potato salad, cabbage slaw, and chopped tomatoes, along with a choice of protein—I ordered the fish fillet, a flaky white fish, which was lightly breaded and fried. Everything was beautifully presented on a plantain leaf, but the execution of the dishes could have been better. The plantains were hard and undercooked, and the other components could have been better seasoned. Nevertheless, this made for a decent meal that came at a good value and with friendly service.

La casona tipica offers traditional costa rican cuisine for a quite affordable price. We tried the meat platter to share which was enormous - minimum 3 or 4 people. The different meat were ok, only the sauted chicken really stands out. The place is quite authentic in its decoration and there are lots of locals that come at night to eat there. The service is ok but we've had more nice waiters. Good for a quick bite, possible to pay with CB.

If you are in San Jose and want to try some local Costa Rican dishes, this place is a must visit. They have a huge menu with local specialties. I ordered Casado with Chicharrón. Both presentation and the taste was great. Also the server was very friendly here. (For tourists: they have wifi in the restaurant for customers and they accept credit cards too)

Our walking tour guide took us here for lunch after our tour and it was delicious! Highly recommended for authentic local food. I had the ‘chifrijo’ which was great - the usual rice and beans with crispy pork, guacamole, tomato and tortilla chips. Apparently not many restaurants have this dish so I would recommend trying it!

The beef steak here was really good. Of all the places we've visited in Costa Rica, the beef steak was seasoned the best here. We just had to order an additional cut on the side. The service was also quite friendly and checked in with us to see how we liked everything. This is a hidden gem in San José.

First meal here! A good breakfast had! I had the one with sour cream and my husband with cheese- neither like we know as back home but nice! The rice and beans with fried plantain was good. Decent portion sizes too and the fruit juices are good! Highly recommend.
